I love Hamptons because the staff is always so warm and inviting, and the amenities are plentiful. This hotel in Springfield was no exception. Free breakfast was great and the oatmeal really yummy! I also love that they have fruit, cookies and coffee all day. We used the pool this time which was a lot of fun, but be careful, the floor is slick in there. Hot tub was great after a long day sightseeing. Lots of wonderful restaurant options right outside the door so no need to search for something to eat.
We were disappointed to find that this hotel was situated in an industrial area, several miles from the main Lincoln sites. There are better locations to try if one is just passing through like we were, hoping to have half a day to visit some of the more special Springfield spots. Along with worries about exactly what these plants are pumping out, it was difficult to walk to restaurants since the intersections don't accommodate pedestrian crossings (to the Bob Evans for late dinner in our case).
I spent three nights here on a business trip; the property seemed better than average for a Hampton Inn. Everything was very clean, the fitness center was well equipped and everything was working. The breakfast was fine, and the service was very attentive and friendly. There are many chain motels in this area, and a number of chain restaurants. I would recommend this property with no qualms.
We have stayed at Hampton Inns several times and found this one to be similar to others. It was relatively quiet and comfortable. There were lots of towels and toiletries in the bathroom; the furnishings were in good condition. The front desk personnel were pleasant and helpful. The selection of food in the breakfast room was about average compared to other Hampton Inns but the tables were full the two mornings we had breakfast there. There are many restaurants nearby; we tried to get in to the Chesapeake Seafood House (about 5-10 minutes north) for dinner our first night and found it packed, so we made reservations and went the next night. We still had to wait 1/2 hr for a table but the service was fast, friendly and efficient and the food was good. The purpose of our trip was to visit the Lincoln Museum, Lincoln Home, Capitol, New Salem and other Lincoln or government sites. It was just a ten minute drive to downtown. We recommend taking a tour of the Old State Capitol; the volunteers there are passionate about the history of the building. The Lincoln Museum is great for kids or anyone wanting an overview of Lincoln's life.
