“Beautiful place, some lovely people but in the end a holiday is what you make it!”
Arrived 11pm on the evening of the Cretan Night and was offered food from the buffet outside - it was dark and the food was cold and you couldn't see what you were eating so wasn't a good start. The accommodation is located on both sides of the main road which runs through Sissi - we were on the opposite side from the main reception which was fine, once you got used to navigating your way to your room in bad lighting, Oh, watch out you don't stand on a cat - loads of them everwhere! We were All Inclusive and definately made the most of it! We thought the food was great, a good selection and even our fussy 14yr old managed to find something. We've been AI before and thought this hotel rated well for the food. However, bling chick is right about the alcohol, only one drink at a time, well until the staff got to know you. They also like you to take your glasses back but being British most of us have manners and do that anyway! Once we got to know the staff on the different shifts it was much better and definatly helped us decide on which area of the hotel we would spend our time i.e. Kara works daytime in the restaurant and bar, she was great, very helpful; Nico works the bar at the pool and he was really good too - likes the football and enjoyed a bit of banter; Demitri and his wife were good too - well once you got used to him (tip - don't go in the pool after 6pm or you'll get what for in Greek!) No problem with sun beds either in the grassy area which is a bonus. Evening entertainment is the worst we've experienced, well until my husband and father law were roped into participating in the first week we were there - funniest thing i've seen for a long time - glad his underwear were his new holiday ones! Most of our evenings were spent at the Tropical Bar with Jimmy the geordie who was always good for a blether, gave good tips on the area and ran the bar on his own most of the time very well. We enjoyed listnening to his music while playing cards or dominos and having a few drinks. We went to a couple of the other bars in the evening - The Jolly Roger which was good for Guiness, live football, Quiz and Cocktails (Woo Woo). The Irish Bar Peggy Gordon's was another great night out, seems to be open 24/7 - we enjoyed a good Guiness, good Irish music with the owner Caven and his fiancee Yasmin. A car is a good idea, we saved a fortune on the organised excursions by going on our own - we went on a boat trip to the Sunken City and Spinalonga from Ag Nic and Water City water park and we hired a boat to go fishing from Elunda. Overall, as you can see we all enjoyed the holiday but in the end it's what you make it!
