“WOW! Awesome experience kayaking while in Las Vegas!”

We were staying in Las Vegas for a long weekend and didn't want to gamble that much so we decided to look for nearby adventures. Although my husband isn't a lover of kayaking, he even loved this trip down the Colorado River. We were picked up at our hotel, driven to the river right below the Hoover dam. Everything was efficient and on time. We were back in the city and showered and ready to roll by six thirty (after a short nap)!

The kayaking was amazing. We typically kayak a lake and the river does have a current but no rapids that we saw. I was a little nervous but got comfortable quickly. Our guide, Ashely, was great! So patient and a kind instructor. We hiked and saw so many great pools and springs, amazing views. The lunch was great. The kayaks were in great condition - perfectly clean and no leaks. It was such a majestic river and canyon. The water is so clear you can see a long way to the bottom.

Our group was small - just six of us and we all had so much fun together. My husband and I are in our 40's and this was no problem (even with his bad knees). One couple did a tandem ride and they were probably in the early sixty range and they seemed comfortable. Ashley said the current was really fast and the water was higher than normal so we had a nice swift ride and coasted a good percent of the ride. I originally considered an un-guided trip but I'd recommend that you use the guide - the trails to the hot springs would be impossible to find. They also have great information about the river and the history of the dam and the whole area.

Wear sythethic fabrics that dry quickly - you'll be wet up to your knees getting in and out of the kayak. We brought a backpack with dry gear. Wear water socks or a river shoe that stones cannot get in...one guy had pebbles in his river sandles when we went hiking the hills and crevices and it was really hurting him. It was 68 and breezy from the north on the day we went and felt very warm because the wind was blocked a good part of the trip.

The crew was very accomdating and altered the tour as needed. This is a definate must do! I rank this in the top 20 great experiences of my life with the spectacular scenery and great operation. Thanks Desert Adventures!

“If you want to Kayak the Colorado, This company is fantastic!”

Easy sign up process and they take the time to answer all of your questions. Very reasonably priced also. They met us exactly where they said and actually called me on my cell because I was 5 minutes late. They explained everything we needed to know including safety, how to navigate and best stops to make. When we went down the Colorado we hit some incredible head winds the second half of the trip which really slowed us down...but it was still fun and quite the adventure. When we finished, they were there waiting for us with cold water and frozen Otter Pops (kids like that a lot). I strongly recommend.

“Brilliant all day kayak - see another side of vegas”

This is a full day rafting trip, early start and mid afternoon finish. Our guide Steve (and Brian) were excellent. Your guide will take you down the Colorado river, regular stops and make sure that you spot some local wildlife. Lunch, snacks and transfer all included. Smooth water rafting (most of the time). Suitable for beginners, double kayaks available. Whether you've done this sort of thing before or not, DO THIS TRIP!

“Great kayaking outside of Vegas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2010

I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Desert Adventures for a wonderful experience! We did a 1 day Black Canyon kayak trip during our stay in Las Vegas. I felt it was the best day of the whole trip! I could have stayed days out on the river and not returned to Vegas at all! Steve picked us up at our hotel and was extremely friendly and answered all of our questions...no matter how obsure they were. The day ran smoothly and we were out on the water in no time. It was nice blend of kayaking and light hiking. Tim was our guide out on the river and was very knowledgable and helpful throughout the whole day. The lunches that were provided were fantastic and Desert Adventures went above and beyond any and all expectations I had for the day. The next time we are out in the Vegas area I plan on booking another trip with Desert Adventures...but this time it will be an overnight trip! If you are looking for something fun that doesn't require a casino and prefer being outdoors...then this is the trip for you! Thank you again to Desert Adventure for all that you did for us!

Sincerely,
Sarah and Mathew Swanton

“One of the most enjoyable afternoons of my life!!!”

3 of us (females, ages 26-32) planned a week long trip to visit Vegas and decided we wanted to get off the Strip a bit and site-see. I hopped on TripAdvisor to do some searching and read some fantastic reviews about the Kayaking through Desert Adventures. I must say...it wasn't what I expected. It was even better. There are truly no words to describe the amount of peace and beauty that you encounter. While it was an early morning to get up, I'd do it again in a heart beat and get up even earlier if it meant having more time out there. We did the full day excursion and I must warn you - it is one of THE most physically challenging and exhausting things I have ever done. Two out of the three of us are athletes. We go to the gym daily, play on quite a few competitive volleyball and softball teams, etc. We're young, non-smokers who are in shape. Not gonna lie...there were times where I didn't think we were gonna make it. I don't think that's quite the norm b/c of all days we did go out, they said it was one of the windiest days they've had in a long time. So, they drop you off at the bottom of the Hoover Dam and you already are paddling UP stream...that combine with the wind made it VERY tough. We had choppy waters and wind blowing us backwards. Luckily, it was a self-guided tour so we could stop when we wanted to and rest, but some times it made it even harder to get back out there. Unfortunately, due to the extra time we had to put in paddling so hard, we didn't make it to all the stops they give you on the map. But the ones we did, WOW. Truly amazing. I encourage anyone and everyone with stamina to do this and to take a camera, wrap it up in a water box and take as many pictures as you can. And for those who have never kayaked...well this was all of our first times and we made it. They will kinda just give you a map and drop you off and say see you in 8 hours...but you know that going into it. Don't be scared of getting lost or anything...it's impossible as it's just a straight shot. I can't say enough good things about this tour. But if you think you're not up to the physical challenge, I'd say opt for the 4 hour tour instead...it's more relaxing from what I understand. Oh, and prepare to SLEEP. We made it back to the hotel around 6pm and didn't wake up until 7am the next morning. I kid you not...we were WIPED out and missed an entire night out on the town. Good thing we were there for 8 days!
