In May 2005 stayed at des Sources in Gordes. We cycled there from St. Remy de Provence in the rain. Dramatic view of town. The grounds of des Source, include bungalow and camping accommodations. The bungalow seemed best to handle conditions. It was not expensive (50e per night for the three of us). The bungalow had two bedrooms, bath with shower, galley, and living space. We turned the heat on and dried out.
The restaurant food was simple. If you eat to live, des Source food is OK. If you live to eat, eat elsewhere.
The countryside has wild thyme everywhere. Very nice addition to a dinner cooked in the galley. The town has a good boucherie with a variety of well prepared dinner items. Some uncooked, some cooked. The bakery in town had the best pastry in Provence. Delicate puff wrap of marzipan, cake and apple.
When leaving, the establishment of des Source found our cleaning of the bungalow unsatisfactory, although we left it better than we found it. We were left with the impression that the 30e cleaning charge was excessive. Be prepared for this when you leave.
In total, the climb from town is significant, particularly on bikes. The fellow campers can be friendly and interesting. The food is mediocre. The facilities are, for the most part, OK. One wash area needs to be renovated. Others are OK. The cleanup fee is confiscatory. IMHO. But the value over what a room in town would cost is definitely good. Just plan on an additional cleaning fee.
