I have used Tripadvisor for some time and never left a review before. Our experience was so memorable that I promised myself to drop a few lines to compliment the Hotel de France and its restaurant l'Insolite. This hotel was the best experience we had during our visit of the Brittany region and among the 2-3 stars hotels we stayed at.
The Hotel is classified as a two-star but it deserves three for the quality of the room, very large (en suite), comfortable bed, and the overall atmosphere which makes you feel at home right away.
The restaurant was of a very fine quality. We stayed for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised by the originality of the dishes, good wine list and fairly priced, and their sophisticated deserts are worth thise served in the top ranked restaurants of the City (we are from London). We opted for their first price menu (€28).
The breakfast was also outstanding, presented by the owner and head chef himself, local pastries, artisanal jam. We were given the recipe of their delicious Asian version of "Le Financier" cake.
We will return to Hotel de France and L'Insolite during our next stay at Douarnenez.
