My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of our week-long honeymoon. We were very happy with everything about our stay- Chris, Louisa and their family were wonderful hosts and their home is extraordinary! I used TripAdvisor to assist me with choosing their place, and I found that the reviews of Casa Amanecer were accurate and helpful.
Some things that I think might be helpful that I didn't read in the previous reviews: The B + B is in a great location for exploring some of the smaller mountain towns and cloud forests. Chris and Louisa had some great suggestions for day trips and looked at the map with us in the mornings before we headed out. I appreciated their support and genuine interest in helping us make the most of our adventures off of the beaten path.
They even set us up with a friend of theirs in town who took us on a private horseback ride and guided hike in a nearby cloud forest. It was a very special experience- the guide was fantastic, knowledgeable and the tour was breathtaking.
I would definitely recommend renting a car with substantial, good tires. We picked the cheapest, manual transmission option at the car rental place and had four 'donut' tires that were not equipped for the roads in that area. We found it to be part of the adventure, but I think we might have gotten pretty lucky that we only got 1 flat.
We spent 3 nights here to see the Central Valley and cloud forests and then 4 nights at Playa Samara on the Pacific coast. They are both such unique, beautiful spots and the experiences complimented each other nicely.
