“Not the same camp it was in the 90s”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

Since this camp was renovated it has become a premier Military Camp. I have stayed in both a room and a townhouse. The camp is well kept and is actually pleasant to look at. Gone are all the old Quonset Huts that have been replace by modern hotel rooms and town houses.
The Halibut fishing boats are very nice with heated enclosed cabins and indoor toilets no longer is fishing done from open Boston Whalers. Each boat has an actual Professional Captain not a TDY soldier and very capable deck hands. The fish house is great there are knifes and cleaning areas with running water. For a small few you can purchase vacuum packing bags may be purchase for use with the industrial grade vacuum packers. The deck hand will help or completely clean your fish for you, this they do for tips.
The staff is very caring and efficient and provide great service. If you have the privilege to be able to use the camp do!

“Excellent - A fisherman's dream come true!”

This is my second visit in two years. The staff is very friendly and professional. If you are looking for a great location with awesome accommodations, well this is the place. The fishing charters, fish cleaning stations, and freezers are all top notch! The laundry facilities are very clean. The lodge and bar areas are remarkable. You would not even know this was a fishing resort. This place even has free Wi-Fi ! MWR has done this facility well! I'll be coming back again. Make reservation well in advance.. Oh you have to be active duty/retired military / and or affiliated with the DOD to quality to stay at this location.

“Great Find”

My husband, two daughters 11 and 9 years old and I stayed here June 25-26 - 2010 (made our reservations 11 months in advance). We had just gotten off the cruise ship and picked up our rental car then got to the resort at 1000 am. They had our room ready which was great. The room was big and clean. They had free internet and satellite TV which my daughters loved. The beds were comfortable and the room is very quiet. We heard no outside noise. It is located in a beautiful area that makes for a nice walk. Our first evening we walked back to the fish house after a fishing tour just unloaded and we were able to see them weigh the fish and look in as the fish were filleted for sending home.

The reservation desk area had free coffee and tea all day. A nice shop was also connected with tee shirts, sweatshirts, outdoor gear and snacks to buy. We took advantage of the on premises laundry and the grill one night. Basic bar food as they say but quite tasty and inexpensive for a quick dinner. They had a buffet breakfast too which was good. Hard to keep the food hot so the eggs were a bit cool but they did have make your waffles which were very nice and plenty of items to satisfy everyone.

They sell tickets to most of the tours out of Seward and we were able to get the all day Kenai Fjords National Park cruise at half price (Major Marine - excellent tour-highly recommend). Also got discounted tickets to the Alaskan Sea Life Center which was really great for families.

Everyone was very friendly and we highly recommend it. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip.

“Perfect location, comfortable rooms”

Traveled 6/27/28 to Seward. If you have a military connection, This is the place to stay. There are eligibility requirements, so check it out on their website. SMR is clean, neat, well maintained. Rooms are spacious, comfortable beds, roomy bathrooms, clean and neat. Would chose this over any other place around.. Note: No restaurant, but they do have bar type food for lunch/dinner and a breakfast buffett in Warriors Hall in the am.

“Terrific Accomodations - Book Early!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2009

The Seward Resort is a terrific place to stay. Military members and other qualified persons may book rooms or townhomes up to a year in advance, and they fill up quickly.
Traveling with extended family, I was unable to book enough lodging in advance, so wound up elsewhere. However when bad weather washed out the road to our other accomodations, we were able to secure 3 rooms last-minute. Although the rooms are pretty standard and basic with two double beds, a full bath and a fridge/microwave, they were very comfortable. And the rate was much better than anything else in town. Added bonuses are the discounted fishing charters, a terrific fish processing facility and freezer storage, large recreation room and bar/grill with reasonably priced food, and nice laundry facility. My kids are still raving about the 'freedom burgers', saying they're the best burgers they've ever had.
The resort also offers to book/ discount other tours and activities as well.

Alaska is expensive. If you qualify to stay at this military resort you should take advantage of the savings. Be prepared to book very early (you can cancel without penalty), or be ready to go last-minute when rooms open up, as they do get frequent cancellations. Seward is a great place to visit so plan to spend at least 2-3 days there!
