“Personality Plus!!! so much more than an average 'room'!”

When i looked at Alaska’s Point of View website, i had several places to choose from. the were all so tempting, but since i didnt have anyone other than myself on this trip, i decided to experience a WWII Quonset Hut, theres two of them, and i chose the Moonshine Hut, as that was the available one at the time. The small suite with a jacuzzi bath and fireplace was tempting, since it is winter, and the full suite with a kitchen, livingroom and separate bedroom was just bigger than i needed. there were other places too, it was really a hard choice, as they all looked interesting. Since the small suite was already booked, I chose the Moonshine Hut (World War II Quonset Hut). It looked so quaint, and i sure am glad i did! This rounded long building is sooooo cute! The first look at the inside was one of those OOOH-AAAAH moments of surprise! What impressive decorations and furnishings. Handmade touches everywhere, not your average hotel generic stuff. The place was just unique all the way around. There was stained glass in the wall, hand made coffee and end tables with all kinds of treasures in them, and the floors were painted, with different patterns in each room. It really gave me a feel of the old and the new. Even tho the outside was from the 1930's, the inside was very modern with a fully furnished kitchen, a bathroom (with on-demand hot water heater-a real plus), a bedroom with a queen bed and the back porch. The porch had patio doors with a great deck outside with a view of Resurrection Bay and the mountain range on the other side of it. OMG, the sunrise on the mountains was incredible. i enjoyed my tea from the inside to watch it, but i sure do want to come again in the summer, to sit and barbeque on the deck and smell the bay breeze and watch the frolicing bunnies. Yes! there are these adorable little wild bunnes hanging out in the fenced yard. They are so fun to watch, all colors, too, and lots of birds. Maybe next time i will see a moose....I am already plotting my return visit. i bet this place is busy, so i better book it soon! Debra, the host, has all the comforts of home in this little getaway. there is a book i could browse to let me know what to do on my off time, where to eat, play, and shop. Seward shopping is amazingly diverse, i got a headstart on Christmas without the crowds, and the food in town is some of the best! I cant wait to return to Seward and stay again in the Moonshine Hut.

“so great that I am writing a review while I am staying here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

my father & i are staying in the full suite, which is a huge space with a full kitchen & a gigantic bathroom. the view is spectacular! the owner is very nice & accommodating. there are a few surprising niceties like a towel warmer in the bathroom & a gas fireplace. also, free parking, free wi-fi, free cable. i love it!! we are here after tourist season (late september) & the rate for the entire suite is $75/night! i am a fairly easy breezy traveler, so it doesnt take much to impress me, but this is above & beyond my expectations. also, my father had never stayed in a b&b, so i think he was a bit apprehensive, but hes in love! one more thing - this is not your traditional b&b. there is bed, there is breakfast. but, its really a serviced suite - you dont have to go eat breakfast with strangers. breakfast is already in your kitchen & fresh bakery & fruit are left at the door for your morning feast at your leisure. highly recommended!!!

“Totally worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

We stayed for 2 nights. The "suite" that we stayed in looked like a regular one bedroom apt complete with a kitchen, bath, balcony etc. Very comfortable and well stocked. Convenient location. It was like being at home.Loved it.

“Great location, beautiful view, helpful hostess”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

We stayed in the full suite for 4 nights and were extremely comfortable. The bedroom has blackout shades, which was really appreciated with the long daylight hours! The suite is upstairs which allows for a beautiful view of the mountains and Resurrection Bay (unfortunately, the electrical lines mar the view some.) Fresh fruit, juice, muffins and a variety of cereals and snacks were nice to have. Debra also arranged a Kenai Fjords tour for us that was a marvelous experience. This is within an easy walk to the Alaska Sea Life Center and historic downtown Seward.

“Loved the Point of View”

Alaska's point of View is a gem! My husband and I were so comfortable there that we did not want to leave. We stayed in the studio suite, that had a small covered porch. That was a blessing on rainy days. The room was very cozy, decorated with handmade items and stained glass windows. The insulated black-out shades on the windows and porch door are a fantastic idea. There is a small "kitchen" area with a mini fridge, coffeemaker , plates, etc. Debra, the owner, will bring you huge muffins and fruit every day, and also take away your dirty dishes. Awesome!! The bed is super duper comfortable, the mattress topper she put on is really doing the trick. The little gas log fireplace was also very nice and romantic on a chilly night. During our stay, Debra made us discounted reservations for a tour of the fjords (that turned into a fantastic wildlife tour as well). Had we reserved ourselves it would have cost more. She does have quite a few rules and notes up everywhere, but we understood, after all, adults should be respectful of others' property. Debra does have a dog and two-three cats, so if you have allergies, be aware. The dog was the quietest dog in the world, only heard her? barking once in the morning for like a minute. We can't say enough good things about Debra and her b&b. Stay here!! Next time we're in Seward we will too.

  • Liked — Very Quiet. The view, the deck, the everything
  • Disliked — Had to leave

Thank you so much for your glowing review. I would like to mention that even though we do have 3 cats on the property, they are not allowed in our rooms. We have had people stay that do have allergies and not have a problem. Also even though that suite is geared towards romance and a single couple, we do have other units that are just as nice geared towards families. Thank you again for taking the time to post on tripadvisor.com.
