“Mali Ston is first class as is Hotel Ostrea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

Hotel Ostrea, a small, elegant inn and its family-run restaurant, Konoba (Kapetanova Kuca) directly next door, is a rare find in a small, beautiful fishing village with its very own fortress walls. A beautiful place on the planet and well worth the stop-over. Try the Stonska Torta Ston Cake for dessert after a sumptious dinner at the restaurant. Breakfast at the Hotel Ostrea is strictly continental.

“Relaxing retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

Hotel Ostrea is a small family run hotel in the small ocean side village of Mali Ston. The hotel is very clean and up to date with a conservative local flair. We had a room that opened onto the harbour. There isn't much to do here however the food is great. The hotel owns the restaurant next door which produced the best food that my wife and I had during our 2 weeks in Croatia. The focus is on seafood, particularly oysters. We enjoyed a hike on the ancient wall that ended up in Ston. This is certainly worth a night or two of your trip.

“Charming hotel in a beautiful setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

We stayed at Hotel Ostrea during a one-night stop in Mali Ston whilst driving back down to Dubrovnik from Korcula.

The hotel is a charming little place, set right by the water's edge. Our room was indeed pretty small (I don't think my 6ft4" boyfriend would have coped for more than a couple of nights in there!), but it was quaint and charming, and the bathroom was spotless. Our room also had 3 windows, all of which faced out onto the pretty harbour with the little boats bobbing about.

We ate that night at the hotel's restaurant, and the seafood was really outstanding, some of the best of the trip (which is saying something!). The cutllefish ink risotto was a particular highlight.

Breakfast the next day was better quality than I was expecting too, with a good selection of items and friendly service.

Compared to other places we stayed during our trip, hotel Ostrea was the most expensive, but we treated it as the treat night of the holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mali Ston itself is a beautiful little harbour, so quiet and peaceful. We also enjoyed a wander around Ston (the next village along), which has some very steep city walls that you can climb and experience an amazing view of the area!

Room Tip: We took a superior room which was on the first floor, I think called 'Ljube'. It had 3 windo...

“Quiet and authentic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

Loved Mali Ston, especially the fabulous fish restaurants. The Hotel Ostrea is quaint, our corner room small but lovely. This was a wonderful relaxing stop over between the crowds of Split, Dubrovnik, and Kotor.

“Fine Hotel If You're Visiting Mali Ston”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

If you're looking to split up a drive between Dubrovnik and Hvar, and you like wine and shellfish, Mali Ston is a nice place to stop for the night. The hotel's restaurant was great (and the one next door to the hotel's restaurant was actually even better). However, it isn't a destination hotel itself by any means. It was mediocre and the service was surprisingly rude, especially for a family owned hotel. We were treated like we were inconveniencing the young woman who checked us in. The room was comfortable, but lacking in charm and luxury, and was over priced for what you got. Overall, hotels in Croatia aren't great since so many years were lost in the tourism infrastructure due to the war, and the most beautiful and charming place we stayed at during our Croatia trip was an apartment rental in Dubrovnik.

If you go wine tasting in the area, our favorite wineries were Matusku and Madirazza, and I highly recommend visiting both. We visited other wineries too, but these two were close to each other and had by far the best wine, and the Matusko has a pretty tasting room.
