Loved Mali Ston, especially the fabulous fish restaurants. The Hotel Ostrea is quaint, our corner room small but lovely. This was a wonderful relaxing stop over between the crowds of Split, Dubrovnik, and Kotor.

If you're looking to split up a drive between Dubrovnik and Hvar, and you like wine and shellfish, Mali Ston is a nice place to stop for the night. The hotel's restaurant was great (and the one next door to the hotel's restaurant was actually even better). However, it isn't a destination hotel itself by any means. It was mediocre and the service was surprisingly rude, especially for a family owned hotel. We were treated like we were inconveniencing the young woman who checked us in. The room was comfortable, but lacking in charm and luxury, and was over priced for what you got. Overall, hotels in Croatia aren't great since so many years were lost in the tourism infrastructure due to the war, and the most beautiful and charming place we stayed at during our Croatia trip was an apartment rental in Dubrovnik.

If you go wine tasting in the area, our favorite wineries were Matusku and Madirazza, and I highly recommend visiting both. We visited other wineries too, but these two were close to each other and had by far the best wine, and the Matusko has a pretty tasting room.

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was just perfect.We stayed in different rooms and both were great.It was not the cheapest place to stay and for that reason expensive for families.However it is romantic and quiet and the restaurant is staggering distance from your room. The fish oh! the fish! again perfect! It is in the middle of the wine region so again a fantastic range of great wines to suit all.The swimming infront of the hotel is good with steps but you do have to watch for sea urchins on the sea floor.All in all I would recommend it to the world despite all the cleches.

This is a 3 star hotel trading on its location, which is 5 star. Our room was small and stuffy. Too many flounces and not enough of a working aircon to make much difference. I resorted to wet towels in the middle of the night. Only two of the five lights worked in our room, one bedside and one main ceiling. Our bathroom was back to back with next doors, and I know more about that guest's bodily functions than I need to. The attached restaurant is very pricey, and they sniff at you if you order the cheaper things on the menu. If you want to eat more economically, you have to walk back to Ston (about a 20 min walk) We stayed one night instead of three (bed and breakfast 954 kn or 138 euro) and I now see my credit card has been charged £83.07, a further 690 kn, presumably a cancellation fee which was not mentioned when we checked out. Just go to the Villa Giardino on Brac instead and get great service for less money.
