We arrived on a Monday night without a booking after a massive drive from Las Vegas. No non-smoking rooms left, but the lady at reception let us have keys for 3 smoking rooms to find the one that was not too bad. One of them was fine. The bonus - right next door to a Del Taco and 5 mins up the road and you are at Joshua Tree National Park.

Cheap and convenient to Joshua Tree National Park...but that's all. Low quality bedding, paper thin walls, and a tendency to house roudy Marines mean you better be exhausted from a long day hiking if you want to get some sleep. Clean enough. Slowwwwwww check in. As was the $3 internet access.

The people on the front desk were friendly. The room was quite small and the single chair in the room was broken and wobbled if you tried to sit in it. The mattress was as hard as a rock and made sleeping difficult. My dorm room at college was better than this (except for the private bathroom here). The room appeared clean but the smell of tabacco smoke was omnipresent. Only a few channels on the tv. DIdn't go in the pool, was kind of doubtful of its cleanliness.
Also seems to be the place companies are putting up construction workers who are working on the base, so there are many men hanging out on the walkways in front of the rooms on the upper floors drinking beer.

Westayed here while visiting Joshua Tree and I couldn't wait to leave after the first night. The room smelled terrible, there were bugs everywhere in the room.... they were even climbing out of the drain. There were absolutely no ammenities, no fridge, hardly any tv channels, etc and the shower was made for someone under 4 feet tall. I am a woman about 5 feet 8 inches and I had to bend down to fit under it. We left after 1 night. There wasn't even free internet (you had to pay extra for it)
