Although sometimes referred to as a Bed & Breakfast, this is nothing like an English B&B. It’s more like a small hotel, with very clean hotel-style en-suite rooms and balconies.
Breakfasts are good, though obviously there are no evening meals. Although this was our seventh summer holiday in this area we have always gone half board, so we were concerned about eating out. In general we found prices to be similar to UK, with restaurant main courses from 10 euros, and pizzas for less. Alternatively, the food in the Tauern Spa restaurants is simple but tasty, with prices around 8-10 euros for a main course. OK for a few nights. And there is something very relaxing about eating your evening meal in your white bathrobe.
Which brings us to the Tauern Spa, a short walk away. The place is superb, and Pension St Georg customers get unlimited entry for free. And when we were there, St Georg were also offering vouchers against meals at the spa, so we were eating for next to nothing. All in all, an unbelievable deal.
The owner, Simone, speaks excellent English and runs the St Georg to very high standards. She was always willing to chat over breakfast or offer advice, especially when we heard we had some difficulties back home and needed help.
This was a very good week – and highly recommended even without the Tauern Spa. But especially so if the spa deals are still on.
