My husband and I spent four days in NOLA, and we couldn't be more pleased with our selection of the Antebellum Guest House.
Keith and Art are amazing hosts. Keith has such a wonderful heart, genuinely kind. He has an amazing knowledge of the city: where to go, what to eat.... When you stay with them, listen to his tips: He knows what he's talking about! Thanks to Keith's advice, we experienced the best parts of our vacation. He knows so much history about the region. To listen to him tell stories about the city is even better than watching a documentary. Although he wasn't around as much, Art's company is fabulous, too! He gets so excited when he tells his stories, you just can't help but get excited listening to him. They're both absolute treasures. They didn't make us feel like a customers. They made us feel like long lost friends.
The food? Everybody's reviews are spot on. I'm a foodie & difficult to impress. The breakfasts I've had the last four mornings are the best I've ever had in my life. They start with a beautiful fruit spread, followed by pastries and end with a grand (rib-stickin') finale. Not only are they delicious & filling, but every dish that was served to us was beautifully, artfully presented. Nothing less than you would expect from an artist....
Our room was great. It has super high ceilings. We chose the Rococo Room because my husband is on the taller side, and I was afraid he wouldn't be comfortable in the smaller bed in the Bordello Room. The bed was firm & the high thread count sheets were just like the ones we have at home: luxurious. The towels are big and fluffy, too.The mattress is firm and sleeps great. It was perfect for the post-breakfast naps. :-) I also liked the location of the Rococo Room because it is the only room which is not on the second floor.
The location of the guest house? Within walking distances of the French Quarter. We parked our vehicle in front (watched by security cameras), and that's where she stayed for the four days. We walked everywhere we wanted to see. Now, I must mention, that the neighborhood on St Bernard that leads up to Esplanade Ave from I-10 is a bit seedy, but don't worry about it! My husband and I never felt threatened on our walks. Most people were friendly and said hello between walks from AGH to the French Quarter.
The beautiful courtyard behind the building has a fabulous hot tub. They supply the robes... Behind the hot tub is a small shed with a refrigerator for your thirst quenching needs... Water & pop for a 50 cents & beer for a buck 50. Very reasonable.
The room was a great value & the hosts are fabulous. You certainly would not regret your choice if you choose to stay here.
