My wife and I stayed here for one night, the last night of our trip, as a special treat. The lobby is gorgeous, and check-in was prompt. We had no further interaction with the operations staff. I found our room to be relatively small. The bathroom walls were covered in acryllic mirrors, right out of the late 80s. It looked very odd. We were worried that the room might be too loud, being that we were overlooking Royal, one block from Borboun, on a Saturday night, but it was quite quiet. The bed was comfortable, but... here's the oddest thing... there were only 4 small, thin pillows on the king bed. I tend to move around a lot in my sleep, and woke up a few times during the night with my head nowhere near a pillow. It did not make for the most restful night.
The famous Carousel Bar was good fun, the bartender knowledgeable and skilled. It made for a great evening to sit and enjoy a few cocktails before we hit the town. The location of this hotel is what truly shines. The Monteleone is mere blocks from all the best that New Orleans has to offer.
Frequent travellers to New Orleans know to be qutie careful when selecting a hotel - some of them are billed as nice properties but are actually quite run down and dirty. For this reason, comibed with the location, I might select the Monteleone again the next time I'm in New Orleans, as I won't have to worry about what I might find.
