“Great room, wonderful staff, beautiful historic hotel”

My wife and I stayed for 7 days in late January 2012 at the Lafayette and had an excellent experience. The staff was courteous, helpful and friendly in response to our requests. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable (fitted sheets on the king mattress would be a good addition). The hotel is located right on the St. Charles Streetcar line, making it convenient to get uptown and to the Quarter, with a great coffee shop across the street (Mon-Fri). This was our first visit to NOLA (and the Lafayette was our second hotel- a BIG improvement over our first). My sense is that New Orleans is a city where people will try to help if you ask, but don't respond well if you demand.

“Rude night staff, great hotel and location”

First the bad:

I was really tired after a 7 hour drive from Houston, TX on my way to Orlando. My plan was to get dinner, sleep and wake up early to sightsee around the city.

I arrived at about 7:00 pm on a sunday night. I was received by a somewhat rude young black lady. I understand english perfectly, but I have an accent and as soon as she heard it she started to speak louder as if that would make me understand her better. I had a coupon from the interstate and when I brought it up she seemed annoyed by it. She entered a few keystrokes and told me that none of the rooms she had qualified for the discount. How convenient!. I mentioned my AAA membership in case it made a difference and it didn't.

I was really tired of the long drive so I just payed the $90 for the room. She also conveniently let me know that there was a $28 surcharge for parking at the hotel's lot. I found this to be misleading since the interstate flyer stated "parking available" but makes no mention of a surcharge or anything like that. Also $4.95 for having wi-fi is ridiculous. I doubt they need to charge for it to keep it running.

The Good:

The room was more than adequate. Lovely quaint decor with a very clean and elegantly decorated bathroom. I found not having a microwave or coffee maker in-room annoying, but the location and "feel" of the hotel made up for it.

Kerry is awesome!. After sightseeing the city (the Quarter and Canal Street are 5-10 minutes away, plus the St. Charles Avenue trolley goes right in front of the hotel) I felt like getting lunch in the city. I needed to check out by 11am and as soon as I mentioned that I wanted to get lunch he let me leave my car parked even after checking out. He recommended me two places to get lunch and we even had a nice chat about the city. He was the complete opposite of the night lady. I would recommend this hotel for a couple's getaway, but it is definitely not for families.

“You pay for what you get, I guess.”

When I fist got to hotel the front desk was quite courteous and very helpful. When we got to the room, it was spacious and had a king size bed. I ordered what they called "room service"off the menu I'm the room, only to find out it's not room service, it's take out. After waiting over an hour I call down and the girl tells me she forgot to inform me I have to come down and pick it up. Without a microwave in the room, my food stayed cold the room did have a large refrigerator, that did not work. Every thirty seconds or so it tried to kick itself on, making for a pleasant night of sleep. When I called about the refrigerator they told me to just bring my stuff down and put my room number on it. They will put it in a refrigerator everyone shares use of, yea. The tub had some type of black stuff coming out of the drain and a nice hairball had been left for the next guest. I am from New Orleans and I have staying at a number of hotels from the best to the worst. I would say in this city you do get what you pay for. If you're trying to get a deal, that's fine but don't cone with any high expectations.

I loved it here and never wanted to leave. Dwayne on the front desk was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. the rooms were beautiful and the trolley at the front door was convenient.

“Will stay again on our next visit!!”

I LOVE LOVE LOVE places with old charm and character! This hotel definitely had that. The staff (especially Kerry) was very nice, knowledgable, and helpful!
Kerry gave directions to any place I asked about and knew the history of just about every room in the hotel and the city itself.
The parking is way too expensive and there are limited parking spaces so I advise to park on the street. We parked on the street 3 nights with no problem! Plus the parking ticket would only be $11 as opposed to $28 and not gauranteed a space!
The rooms very cozy and I didn't hear much noise from others unless they were super loud in the hall!
