“Best Value For Service, Location, And Room Quality In New Orleans!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2012 NEW

I have spent a lot of time in hotels over the years, from the very high end to some of the lower end as well! What I am always striving for, is a relatively fancy and large room in a convenient location, but at what I perceive to be a bargain price relative to others in the area! I think I have found it in the Downtown New Orleans Sheraton on Canal Street. First and foremost is the room. We stayed in what they called an "Executive Suite" which was a large room with a very large and separate living area complete with a bar with barstools and a fantastic view overlooking the Mississippi River and parts of downtown and the French Quarter. These rooms are newly renovated and are more like staying in a small condominium rather than a hotel room. Secondly, I will sometimes sacrifice location for room quality, but did not have to do so here. The location of this hotel is second to none! It affords the absolute best location within walking distance to all of downtown as well as the Quarter! Thirdly, I look for service and the number of staff and how attentive they are to detail and special requests. While this is a very large hotel, 1,100+ rooms, you wouldn't know it by the number of very polite and efficient staff! Not only were we greeted with Champagne and strawberries in our room upon arrival, but my every request was handled politely and expediently every time. I dealt with a group reservations manager by the name of Ashley McCoy, who was without question, the most efficient, friendly, knowledgable, and service oriented person that I have ever dealt with in this capacity! Finally, let me say that I only chose this hotel after an exhaustive search on the internet, which included numerous calls to many New Orleans hotels in an attempt to clarify what they were offering on their respective websites, and this was the winner! There is no better value for my criteria in the downtown/French Quarter area of New Orleans!!!

Room Tip: Ask for an "Executive Suite" and call Ashley McCoy in the reservations office at the hotel...

“Great Location”

This was our first stay at the Sheraton. Great location!! I called ahead of time for a early check in and was told they couldnt confirm until noon but to come in when we arrived and if nothing was available they would store our luggage so we could valet park. When we arrived around 11 we were greeted by a wonderful staff thay immediatly checked up into our room. Several people around us complained about the noise of the renovations but we didnt have any problems during our stay. We were told the hours and floors that were being renovated... even upon check out on that monday we still hadnt been bothered by the noise. My only complaint is the price to park all weekend. i realize every hotels charges this but I think $36.96 per day is a bit much.

“Good location, pity about the service”

Firstly I am a Starwood Preferred Guest member.
We booked the hotel 6 weeks in advance and paid in full which included continental breakfest.
On the day of arrival we rang at midday to advice that we would not be arriving until after midnight and the lady said that she would make a note. When we arrived at 1.15am we were told that there was no room available, finally after the lady at reception checked with someone out the back she advised us that we could have an executive room for the night and would have to change rooms next day. She was told that it was not very convenient as we couldn't unpack anything, we were told that they would organise to move our luggage the next day and she offered us access the club lounge.
Next morning we went down to reception and they had no knowledge about any move, they had us down for checking out. Again the lady went out the back somewhere and came back to advise us that a room was available and she would come up to our room to give us the new room keys. When she came up to our room she asked us if we could move our own luggage.
The executive room was very dated and tired looking, plus it had a fridge sitting on top of a bench. It was a challenge to find the light switches.
The next room was also very dated and tired, although we were a fair distance away from the lifts we could clearly hear them from our room. When I picked up the phone to make a call it fell apart and wouldn't work and the bedside phone did not work either. There is no fridge in the room. On the second morning we went to reception to ask where breakfest was served and was told that it was on the 2nd floor. When we went to check out, breakfest had been charged to our bill, when it was disputed we were told that we had eaten in the wrong area. So finally we had to settle on paying 50% of the breakfest bill, which was paid under protest, especially as the fruit served at breakfest was very hard (unripe) and almost inedible.
It is the worst Starwood hotel I have ever stayed in.

“Great location, but undergoing rennovations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2012 NEW

We had a conference here. First of all, the staff was friendly and the location can't be beat. It's right in the middle of everything and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. It was great! Before my trip, I had "upgraded" to the club level. They assigned me to a room on the top floor... 49. They have a new technology with the elevators... instead of hitting the up or down buttons to call the elevator, you type in your floor number and the monitor shows you which elevator to get into. Then when you get in, there are no floor buttons to push. Pretty wild. Ha. So, I get in the elevator and felt my ears pop when I went to my room. When I opened the door, I was impressed with the wall of windows and the amazing view! However, the room I was assigned was a handicapped room and the closet was about waist high on me. Knowing I'd be there for 5 days, I went down to ask for a new room. I was reassigned to to the 46th floor. This floor had just been rennovated and was very sharp and classy. Grey walls with white trim, nice room. However, it was just completed, because some of the signs hung up in the hall ways (room numbers, direction signs) kept falling off the wall. I only had one window in this room. It was narrow, but was floor to ceiling and still had an amazing view. The only negative to my room was that it was close enough to where the rennovations were that I could hear hammering and drills throughout the day (they stopped at night). As far as the meetings, this hotel is great for meeting space. All of our functions were on the 3rd and 5th floors. It was very easy to find and get around. Very nice.

Room Tip: ask for a river view!

“Great experience”

My family stayed at the Sheraton for two nights while celebrating our daughter's graduation. We had a club room on the 49th floor. We had anticipated a late check-in, and the staff were waiting for us when we arrived around midnight. The views from our room were spectacular, especially with the floor to ceiling windows.
We took advantage of the breakfast and afternoon snacks in the club lounge. Everyone was very friendly and the food was delicious.
Had no problems with noise nor did we even notice any renovations going on while we were there. I did request a late check out, but was denied due to the hotel being at full capacity. We parked at Harrah's to get free parking ( with 30 minutes casino time!) rather than pay the $33 daily parking at Sheraton.
We definitely would return.
