My wife and I are locals who have made our rounds around all the notable restaurants in the Quarter. We've passed Felix's 300 times and never stopped in; if we want po-boys or oysters and we're in that area, we'll go to Acme or Desire. Yes, Acme has a line. Its because its good. Not 4 star, but its always good service and good food for a good price (no, whoever says its more expensive than Felix's, look at the prices; all of Acme's po-boys are the same price or cheaper; oysters are also the same price).
Regardless, we had family in town that wanted po-boys before they headed out and we were in the area right before the had to leave. Acme had its normal 20 minute wait or so for lunch seating and we didn't have the time. They suggested Felix's and I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. Such a waste.
The place is filthy. Not the normal NOLA dirty you find everywhere. That's just part of the city. No, this place was unclean and reeked upon entering. Every fiber of my being wanted me to leave. But they had one last immediate seating table so we stayed.
They can't split tickets at a table. This is 2012. 2012. The local catfish house near where I live that still fries everything by hand out back in a building that's 100 years old and has a credit card machine that takes 10 minutes to run can split my ticket. But they couldn't.
The food was terribly overpriced for the quality. I got the jambalaya, which was cooked long before and reheated (the exterior of the food had the hardened, remicrowaved texture and taste). It also was supposed to have andouille, chicken, and shrimp, but it only had andouille. My wife had a fried shrimp poboy that had 8 "shrimp" on it. 3 of those shrimp were nothing but fried breading. Our family that visited with us had 1/2 poboy, 1/2 jambalaya plates and had the same issues.
The food was terrible and our servers were too busy with a table of personal friends on the other side of the restaurant to be attentive to anything we needed. Definately our worst Quarter dining experience ever.
