My party had a very nice stay at Le Richelieu in August 2011. We found the hotel to be clean, comfortable and quiet. The hotel staff were polite and helpful. This hotel is conveniently located for visiting the French Quarter, the New Orleans Museum of Art (highly recommended!), the Mississippi River, Cafe du Monde, shopping and of course culinary establishments galore.
Although the hotel offers 80 some rooms & suites, the facade is quaint with a long communal balcony. The tall windows and doors sport wooden shutters and the wooden balcony is edged with - what else? - a wrought iron balustrade. The centerpiece of the interior courtyard is a rectangular swimming pool that is surrounded by attractive landscaping and plenty of tables and chairs. The hotel's restaurant and bar has a glass wall opening onto the courtyard. Restaurant guests are served either inside or poolside according to their wishes. The restaurant servers are true professionals who are attentive to your needs. I noticed that locals frequent the restaurant for NOLA style business breakfasts.
It is true that no one offered to carry our luggage to our room, but I wasn't expecting this given the hotel's affordable price. New Orleans was quite hot and humid during our stay, but the hotel's HVAC kept us comfortable. I appreciated having an iron and ironing board already in the closet. From what I observed, it appeared that room service was very active. The staff at the front desk were able to answer my questions, recommend local restaurants and attractions and help coordinate transportation.
Overall, I would recommend Le Richelieu to anyone who does not require luxury, but seeks comfort, cleanliness and convenience.
