A few problems, but i'd say they were quite significant. I actually stayed there in 2002 but that wasn't an option so i chose 2003. I'm only writing this now because i'm heading back to new orleans and i was wondering if this place was still here and i see it is. I'm really hoping the problems i had were due to the hecticness of it being just days before mardi gras.
1. We arrive after a obscenely long train ride (from nyc, i was scared to fly back then), only to arrive to a locked up tight as a virgin Olivier Estates. We had to call the owner who was out partying for mardi gras to come back and let us in. He took our money (which apparently we had to pay UP FRONT which was NOT listed on the website when we booked.. in CASH mind you). And i swear that very moment was the LAST time we saw that guy for our entire trip (about 4 days).
2. We get upstairs to our room (a story on that as well a few paragraphs down) and came back down to mingle with our fellow travelers. About an hour or so later, we were all promptly kicked out of the lobby/common area because the "girls gone wild" video crew were there to shoot some footage....(a "somewhat" bright side is.. a day or two later, one of the crew members let us see some of the footage of the shoot)
3. The title "bed and breakfast" even for us lamens, usually signifys that there will be some...um.. BREAKFAST? Which we actually got that first morning we were there. Never again would there be anything close to resembling a meal for the remainder of our stay.. We had to make our OWN breakfast after that.
3. I think if memory serves, we might have seen maid service about once too in those 4 days.
4. About the room situation i mentioned previously.. This is the ONE bad thing that turned VERY GOOD for us.. We had booked one room (don't recall the "name" of the room and i can't find anywhere online that tells me but...) the owner changed our room which was actually an UPGRADE for the same agreed upon price of the other room, to the "mardi gras" room which was a beautifully decorated 2 bedroom suite that i had NO complaints about.
5. Lastly, when it was time to check out, i did mention we never saw the owner after he took our money right? Well, we had to call him to tell him we were leaving and all he said was leave the key on the bar and i swear i don't even think he asked if we enjoyed our stay because if he did, i would have recalled laying into him the "bed" without the "breakfast" (along with the other deficiencies).
