I stayed with other family members in 2 rooms for a week at the end of January. We booked the Value Rate and I was in a King Jr Ste (Room 208) overlooking the pool. Our other party occupied a Courtyard Room (Double Queen) on the pool level. No problems with either of the rooms or with the billing. I don't understand why there are so many negative comments about noise, "musty" smells and "mildew" in the rooms. Both our rooms were very clean, although a bit dated with brass fixtures, a tiny bit of rust around the drain in the tub, that sort of minor stuff. This part of town is pretty insulated from the noise of Bourbon and Decatur Sts. I really wonder if any of these complaints were brought to the attention of Management, as they seem very eager to please. I witnessed the Front Desk Supervisor telling another departing guest (who was upset about internal noise the previous night), to contact her personally the next time they were coming to town, so that she could make it up to them.
Everyone has addressed the location, which is great, but the main courtyard, the furnishings and the staff are just wonderful. We sat out almost every evening after dinner, hating to leave the beautiful setting; but when we did retire, the room itself was gorgeous. The In-room safe is large enough for a full-size laptop and the free Internet worked fine the entire stay. Breakfast is baked goods, juice & hot beverages, but it IS New Orleans! Aren't you still full from those Red Beans & Rice you ate last night? Won't you be chowing down on a BBQ Shrimp PoBoy for lunch in a couple of hours? Really, we didn't miss the "cooked breakfast" scene at all. St Louis Cathedral is less than a block away for church-goers. There is a (tiny) elevator in case you need one, the size of which can be a problem for those on low floors at check-out time. I finally gave up and carried my bags down 2 flights of stairs.
Suggestions: I would like to see a towel bar by the vanity along with a magnifying mirror. They should also offer a couple of herbal teas for those who cannot tolerate caffeine (I had to go buy my own box at CVS). Fridge, microwave, hairdryer (good power) & coffeemaker all helpful. The channel selection on cable is really terrible if you're planning on watching any TV while here-- we just laughed about how bad it was. Didn't encounter anything of a paranormal nature, but given the surroundings, it wouldn't exactly surprise me either. If you're coming to NOLA to have fun on the town, and not to criticize your indoor surroundings, you really should consider staying here. In the end, there's nothing better than- day or night- being right in the middle of the French Qtr. We will return.
