“Decent but 1.5 miles from U of Wisconsin.”

It's a Best Western. Nice staff. Clean rooms. Nice facility. My bad, but I thought is was closer to the campus than it actually is. Easy drive but I wanted to be able to walk to campus sites. I think there is another Best Western which is closer.

Thank you for taking time to comment on your stay. We appreciate all feedback! The BEST WESTERN PLUS InnTowner and The Highland Club is actually located on the west side of the UW Madison Campus within walking distance of the School of Vet Med, Pharmacy, Engineering, BioTech, Babcock Hall and UW Hospital and Clinics. Our campus is quite big so our location may not have been the most ideal for your destination. Our complimentary shuttle is available to drive guests to any part of the campus so that they do not need to deal with finding campus parking. I am glad that you otherwise enjoyed your stay and we would appreciate future opportunities to accommodate you should your travels bring you back to Madison.

“Very Convenient to UW Hospital, Madison”

We were in Madison as the family of a heart patient at UW Hospital. The InnTowner was discounted ($94 for two people) by making the reservations directly through the Hospital. Although not a great deal price wise, the convenience was invaluable to our family. The shuttle drivers were great - there was only once when both shuttles were out and we would have had to wait 25 minutes so we decided to hike up the hill (which took about 5 minutes) Granted, in slippery weather I wouldn't recommend walking the sidewalks. Otherwise, shuttling to and from the Hospital was the best part. The included breakfast in the morning was also very good; not always piping hot but there was a microwave at the end of the buffet which I used to heat up some of the entrees. Coffee very good. Keurig in room was well stocked. Rooms were very adequate; not the best I've ever stayed in but certainly not the worst. Overall, the friendly, helpful staff far outweighed any cons to this room.

“Tasteful, friendly, good location”

The decor is muted, tasteful, quieting. I shared a room.. one king bed and a pullout with an etched glass partial wall between the beds-- a nice touch. Spacious room. Can't speak to price because I did priceline and paid $62. Wonderful breakfast--not the usual tired fare! Best of all, the PEOPLE were consistently helpful, friendly. They seemed to be genuinely happy and every time I needed something.. voila! Someone was there to help. Our business was at the Capitol and the ride over was very very easy and quick. Parking at the hotel is also easy and convenient. I did hear a train a couple times.. was I dreaming? Our room was at the VERY END of a long hallway but not a big deal. The pool looked nice but we did not use it. I would definitely want to stay here again. Felt just right. And, by the way, it also felt VERY VERY clean-- not just "hotel clean" but REALLY clean!

Room Tip: we needed to use the pullout but had to call to the desk to get linens, pillows, blanket.

“Casual yet elegant”

We booked a block of rooms for a wedding where most of the guests came from out of town, everyone was very happy with the accommodations and service. We used a very nice meeting room free of charge for a private family gathering, the breakfast was wonderful, and the hotel bar was small and chic. Also it is across the street from famous Lombardinos Italian restaurant, as well as small sushi cafe, a pub, and a convince store down the block. The area is very safe, next to an old upscale residential neighborhood that is nice to stroll though. We were all very happy with the quality, service, and convince of this hotel, everyone from ou 85 year old grandfather to the toddlers were welcomed.

“Not worth it!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I suppose this hotel gets lots of guests who are in Madison for UW hospital or for a convention or football game. I am from Madison and my husband and I have stayed at many hotels as we return almost every year for our anniversary.

This hotel by far the worst we have stayed at. The only reason it is a 3 star hotel in my opinion is that they have a restaurant. We didn't eat anything at the hotel so I can't comment on that.

Service was rude...we waited nearly 15 minutes to check in. Mind you, there were THREE people at the front desk and only one party ahead of us. Our room was mediocre at best. The beds are flimsy, the tub drain was clogged. It also smelled like an ashtray. Apparently they keep the nicer rooms for the Highland club...if you buy a standard room, it will NOT be one of those. Those are the rooms with pillowtop matresses and updated bathrooms. Interesting as those are standard in all rooms in the other 3 and 3.5 star hotels we have stayed at!

This is one of the oldest and most poorly maintained 3 star properties I have stayed at in the area and I have no idea why the rates are so high and why it has gotten such good reviews.
