“Industrial-Chic Hotel near UW-Madison”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My husband and I stayed at HotelRed in order to attend a jazz concert on the University of Wisconsin campus. The location was perfect for us as we were able to walk to and from the venue. It's also conveniently located near many nice restaurants and shops. The hotel itself is no cookie-cutter chain hotel. It's done in an urban industrial style, with concrete floors, European showers, and lots of gray, black and red. Despite being so close to campus, the hotel was very quiet and comfortable. The staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful. We heard good things from other hotel patrons about the food served in the bar/restaurant, but we didn't stay long enough to experience this. Great hotel, one we'd definitely stay in again.

“a wonderful experience!”

* Green initiatives: well planned with invitations for participation by guests [linens]; use of Green Cab was awesome and the drivers reminded me to care for the environment; drivers were knowledgeable about their vehicles and about Madison's healthy environment. Housekeepers probably shouldn't be running the dishwasher for just cups and glasses.
* Room comfort and amenities: Great TV size, but it needs PBS. Bed was excellent, shower was fascinating. Room was clean [tough with salty shoes], bright, with comfortable and functional fittings. It was great to have the neat local items in the minibar.
* Lobby and The Wise: Clean, spacious and inviting. The food options were incredible in such a small facility. Food was prepared to perfection, choices were excellent and wait staff were attentive and personable. Front desk was friendly and helpful at all times. The early morning attendant even came out to the cab to get the receipt, saving me precious time on the way to the airport.
* Value: I was traveling on a state government rate, but even the initial price I was quoted would have been reasonable for the quality of service and facilities.

Room Tip: All the rooms have kitchenettes. The hotel is new and very close to University facilities. You can...

“Best in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I have stayed in many Madison hotels, but this is the only one that has given me a WOW factor. Upon approaching the exterior of the hotel, I immediately knew it was going to be a great experience. The building is modern inside and out, with exposed concrete and a lot of glass. The location is great, being immediately adjacent to the UW campus and about a 5 minute drive from the capitol.

Despite the fact that the room is surrounded by concrete and drywall, it manages to feel homey and warm. A large desk and dresser drawers right next to the desk provide a ton of work space. The desk chair is very comfortable.

The kitchenette is attractive and useful. I found all items necessary for a short stay, such as utensils and pans & pots. There is a nice dishwasher, 2 coil cook top, microwave and refrigerator. The fridge is stocked, but is not so packed that you can't put your own things inside of it. Also, it is not a "sensor" fridge, so if you take something out and put it back in later, you will not be automatically charged for it. Prices were very reasonable for a hotel mini-bar. $3 for a soda or large water and high-quality snacks for $4-9 each.

The bed and bedding were fantastic; I slept very well and didn't find the noise from appliances or any noise at all, really, to be bothersome.

All the rave reviews about the shower are right! It is incredible and fun to use. Aveda bath products are great.

Also, I had a light dinner at The Wyse. I selected the cheese plate and spinach dinner salad. Both very tasty and well presented. Service was solid as well. One criticism and somewhat easily corrected I would think. The benches are quite deep and I found myself having to sit on the edge of the seat to reach the table comfortably. I think some large pillows that provided support and pushed one out closer to the table would remedy the problem. I ended up just moving to a chair and scooting that closer to the table. All in all a good restaurant experience that I hope to repeat next time I visit Madison.

Stay and eat here. You will be very pleased!

“This place NAILED it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I stayed at HotelRED last night in Madison, WI! I have stayed in a lot of hotels, but few have ever felt so totally awesome... like I felt the whole time I was in this place. Its modern, its clean, its hospitable and friendly, and my room was great!

I love Madison... and to have a hotel like this right in the heart of it is brilliant! Its directly across the street from Camp Randall Stadium! Staying here for a Badger Football game is now on my wish-list!
If you want to do Madison right... you should try this hotel.
Sure, you can stay in a lot of places near downtown Madison, but this place does it perfectly!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are above standard!

Wow! Thank you so much for the excellent review. We are always excited to hear about guests enjoying their time at HotelRED. We at HotelRED could not agree more that Madison is a great city. It’s even better over a Badger football game. Hopefully we will see you here next year. Please let me know if there is anything I can help with over a future stay. Thanks again and I hope you have an excellent winter.

Sincerely,
Jason Isltrup

“A nice surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Not art all what we expected, this contemporary hotel sits across the street from Camp Randall Stadium, in Madison Wisconsin. Our room felt more like a studio apartment than a hotel room. Open architecture provides a much larger feeling of space than one is used to, in a King Bed room. Staff was generally very pleasant, with a good sense of humor. I expect this place will be packed during U of W football season.
The only downside was the enclosure of the bathroom. It had an opening at the top of the wall facing into the sleeping area. This meant that early risers interrupted the sleep of those who wished to snooze longer. A sliding door did not provide one with the sense of secure privacy during shower or bathroom visits. That being said, the shower was excellent with top and side faucets. I definitely would stay again.

We can’t thank you enough for staying with us at HotelRED. Your excellent review is very helpful on many levels. First, I will definitely pass on your comments to our staff letting them know about their good work. Second, we will continue to examine how to ensure there is privacy in the bathroom area. This is a very important issue and something we continually look into. Please let me know if you are ever staying with us again; I can do anything to make your stay better. Thank you again and I hope you have a great weekend.

Sincerely,
Jason Ilstrup
