“Worst hotel we stayed in in Sri Lanka”

We stayed in 8 different hotels over 11 nights, and this was definately the worst one, the staff weren't friendly when we checked in, the room was cold, there were cob webs in the bathroom. The rooms is very basic. On the plus point the food in the resturant was good and the staff there were far more friendlier than the reception staff. I wouldn't recommend staying there, there are far nicer hotels in Nuwara Eliya, though they may be more expensive.

“STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We were group of friends who stayed for two nights in this hotel. In our entire stay in Sri lanka
this probably worst hotel we stayed. Rooms are dingy, out dated bathroom quality and decor was of poor standard. The mixer for hot water never worked properly ..so be prepared to freeze when you take bath. The hotel althogh located next to tea estate be prepared if you get room facing labour colony of tea workers. Vegeterians and Indian food is almost non exsistant. Lunch and dinner is exorbitantly priced for quality of hotel. Hotel is located far away from town so if you dont have your own tranport you are totally handicapped. You get much better food in town at almost 1/3 price of this hotel. Only good point about location is you can take nice walks in tea estate nearby

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing tea garden or be prepared to look in to labour colony behind hotel.

“Nice room, but need warmer clothes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Very nice carpeted room, but bathroom could be really better. Also, the view through window was to the other part of the building, grid fence and someone's garden.
As it is quite cool in the room, there is no possibility to rise the temperature, also, no complimentary coffee or tea, only bottled water. Also, the sounds from out of the room was quite noisily.
Except from the bathroom and no hot drink the room left a very nice impression. As we spent only one night and it was raining, the view outside the window and walking was not important.
Also it had free dialog wifi connection - the visitors from other countries while using dialog roaming network gets the message with free wifi connecting data to mobile.

“Neat but ordinary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

There is nothing to do with any forest here. Its just a name. The location is quite ordinary and the rooms are very small. At least the room we were given.
There is no lift in the hotel and we had to climb up o third floor each time.
Credit needs to be given for room facilities and cleanliness though. The room had a heater and we really needed it in November.
Food was pretty ordinary and not really tasty. Restaurant itself was pretty small but it was clean.
The entire hotel is very neat and tidy and that is a plus point, but if you are going for a honeymoon, then perhaps best to avoid this hotel as it does not give the feeling of a leisure stay. It is more of a transit stay, i.e one night kind of stay.

“Nice and Welcoming Hotel in the Hills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

This was the first day of our trip to SriLanka and we were yet to realize how difficult it is to get vegetarian food and also how expensive. After a tiring 5-6 hours journey from Colombo airport to Nuwara Eliya early in the morning, it was a shock for us to be told that they did not have much vegan options. The hotel is quite far from the market area and we had no choice but to order what was available. The restaurant nearly robbed us, food was so expensive. But when the breakfast arrived it was so appetizing, delicious and filling that we agreed to ignore the food bills.

The room décor was quite ancient and bathrooms quite small, but clean. The bed linen and towels were not spotless nevertheless clean. They have no lifts and the stairs are the only options which are again quite high. The hotel also has a recreation room with billiards and sofas to relax and enjoy your tea/coffee in the evening. The reception area has a corner bar with small cozy seating and a television. The second day of our hotel stay was also the day of the World Cup Finals between India and SriLanka. It was a very different feeling to be standing among SriLankans in their own home and cheering against their country! The hotel staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the final match with friendly banter.

The hotel is surrounded with tea plantations and it’s a good idea to visit these early in the morning with the Sun’s rays just warming you up. With its oldtime setup and cozy atmosphere, the hotel is a good choice to spend a couple of calm days relaxing away from the traffic and everyday rush. But you must have some sort of transportation to get around or else there is nothing within walking distance.
