“Excellent place to stay”

The room I stayed in was lovely, clean sheets, fresh towels, thick toilet paper. We had afternoon tea and a snack brought every day. I had an outdoor shower, which was great. The staff were friendly. It also has beautiful gardens. The only minor downside was that there was no key to the bathroom door, so there was only the high concrete wall around the shower stopping people getting in.

“Comfortable and good value”

We stayed two nights in a double room and our friends stayed in a twin room, both with AC for about $35 per night per room including tax and breakfast. The lodge was excellent value for money and the staff were helpful. The rooms are clean and spacious. The outdoor bathroom was fine, though if mosquitoes like you then you will have a little trouble. The gardens are beautiful and there is a large seating are to laze around on. Much like most elsewhere on Bali there are roosters roaming the grounds and can be noisy during the early hours of the morning. The only fault that I have with this lodge is the location. If you just need somewhere to sleep then the location is fine. However, if you want to spend time on the beach you may prefer one of the hotels along the beachfront, though prepare to spend a bit more money. It is a short drive to the beach area though so if you have a car, will spend your time diving or would like to save some money then it probably won't be an issue. We did not dive with Kubuku, though they have a dive shop in front of the lodge. We went to Menjangan Island with Reef Seen Diving and had a fantastic time.

“Great Food, Room & Hospitality”

We had a wonderful stay at Kubuku Ecolodge thanks much to the care of managers Jion and Ketut. As a family of 5 the rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. The lovely grounds are interestingly labelled (various fruit trees, vegetables & flowers). The menu was varied and excellent value, served in a peaceful, away-from-the-noisy-street open garden setting. Head waiter, Putu patiently spent time teaching us Balinese expressions while we waited for our meals. Jion is a retired dive guide and has now turned his attention to arranging dive and snorkeling trips to nearby Mengangen Island which We highly recommend. Comfortably close to shore the snorkeling & diving have a spectacular variety of fish on a reef wall. All snorkeling gear, transports, guide (necessary as this is a National Reserve), lunch & even a towel are included in the package.
The small after-school centre next door to Kubuku unexpectedly entertained us with a beautiful gamelan & dance performance the night we arrived. These are 8-15 yr. old youth from the community that Kubuku assists in academics & arts that they otherwise do not have access to.
It is an easy 20min. stroll to the (hawler-less!) beach where you can snorkel around the renowned BioRock reefs, and use the facilities of the resorts lining the beach.

Room Tip: We took 2 adjacent AC rooms (#5A & B) with open air showers. Spacious porch space and rooms clea...

“Best of this trip - clean, friendly, comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

Kubuku is a small and new home-stay. They had only 6 rooms when I visited, are building a few more right now.

The superior room was lovely, serviced daily (not the norm in this price range) and well worth the price I paid.

Make sure you confirm prices ahead of time, the rack rates in peak season are significantly higher than the Internet price here: http://www.kubukubali.com/the-rooms/

I paid less for my pre-booked superior with aircon and ensuite than a walk-in in a standardard fan room with shared bathroom.

Facilities vary depending on room, as do breakfast options (weird?). But all share a quiet location with free WiFi and a friendly host always available when help is needed. They have great communit spirit with a significant part of their profit donated to projects to further the education of poor children.

They arranged my transfers from/to Lovina at a fair price too. New car with working aircon and pleasant safe driver.

The only disadvantage is the location. About 6 minutes walk to the beach, on the other side of the main road. Nothing they can do about it, but if that means that their rooms are half the price of a similar beach front room that is a fine trade-off that any budge-conscious traveler will appreciate.
