“Clean, but front desk staff somewhat impolite.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

My family booked rooms here as an after Christmas trip. Four of the 9 members came down with the stomach virus 2 days before the trip. I tried to cancel and was told no by the inn staff because the virus only lasts 24 hrs. and they have a 72 hr. cancellation policy. The sick were members from 2 families and we were afraid other members would catch it before our trip, which is what happened. We had to pay for one room that was not used. I understand a cancellation policy and they need to rent rooms, but the desk staff was very short and impolite almost like they were on the defensive. Maybe the Christmas crowd had been rough? Maids also went into my parents' room and started to clean while we were at breakfast before we ever checked out. The price, location, and cleanliness were great!

“Do Not Stay Here!”

This hole was so uncomfortable. The price is a ripoff. People in the hospitality industry should be able to get newer mattresses at least every 20 years. I was afraid the ancient space heater was going to catch us all on fire. The dishes in the cabinets were filled with dust and bugs. We were miserable!!

“Ok place, but not fancy.”

Coffee maker went on the Fritz. Inquired about another one,and was told my room didn't come with one. They advertise a coffee maker in every room. Bring your own coffee maker.

“A nice place to stay.”

We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds in December, 2011. The room was not new, but it was clean. The beds were reasonably comfortable. There was a refrigerator and a microwave. The heating unit worked fine. The television was a small 20 inch affair with no premium channels, but a good selection of news and local channels. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. We thought the rate was good at 39.95 for three adults. It should be noted that we checked in on Wednesday evening in December. I don't know what the rate would be on a weekend or in the summer. There was also a continental type breakfast available at no charge. It included cold cereals, cheese danish rolls, honeybuns, coffee, orange juice, and maybe a few more items. Overall, it was a very good value, and we plan to stay there again. If you are looking for the latest in furniture, carpeting and decor, then the Kingwood is not for you. It makes no pretenses and doesn't need to.

Room Tip: Check in on an early week day if you can.

“Worked great for one night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

We had reserved these rooms in order to come to Gatlinburg and see the Christmas parade, in which my grandson was playing in the marching band. The rooms are older, but the beds were very comfortable. The heat was a bit confusing and hard to get consistent. My daughter had turned it on before we walked to the parade (about 2 blocks from the stoplight in front of Ripley's Aquarium) and when we returned from standing out in the cold, it was very warm. She turned it back down for me, fearing it would be too hot, and we ended up being very cold the rest of the night. In her room, she noticed that there was a very large gap underneath the door, and placed towels under to block out the wind. She said that the door needed winterizing a bit better. The showers were hot and had good pressure, although the shower heads are a bit short (fine for me, not so great for my 5'9 daughter). We did have to park on the other side of the hotel since all the parking places close to our room were taken. The pool looked very clean. The hotel was decorated for Christmas and looked very pretty, the kids loved it.

Overall, we did enjoy our stay, it was within walking distance to the parade and it was clean. I liked the location at the end of a dead end road.
