HOSPITALITY: I can't say enough about the people who work at this resort. We got last minute reservations at a very busy time for the resort - Easter weekend. We had several units for our party involving different check-ins and check-outs - thus we had a lot of coordinating to do! Behind the scenes, the management (Beth, Marsha, Stacy) worked hard at making our "puzzle" of unit stays work well. At the front desk, the 3 gentlemen (Tristan, Jonathan, and Kevin) greeted everyone with a smile and made us feel welcome. They also were very patient with special requests and questions:) Maintenance (Jared & Bob) were quick to respond and took care of any issue that arose - each of them minor, but they were there within 10 minutes. Jared even helped me carry out things from my cabin when it was time to move to another unit! The Concierge (Jessie & Diana) were so friendly and made fabulous suggestions for things for us to do. No pressure from either of them to attend the owner update!
UNITS: We stayed in several different types of units during our stay and our favorite were the Deluxe GOLF units - best location and nicely laid out. The kitchen, living room, and dining area are all in one large room, giving it a more spacious feel. They have a screened-in porch overlooking the golf course and a babbling stream - ahhh, true relaxation. The Deluxe units have both a deck with chairs AND a screened in porch with either a hot tub or table and chairs. The bedroom is located next to the living room and the windows open up onto the screened-in porch. The galley kitchen is small, but functional with a round table right next to it. These units have a large garden tub in the bathroom and an extra sink in the bedroom. The cabins are great with your own hot tub and grill on the back deck, but the kitchen is small and the cabins are next to a busy road - so if that kind of noise bothers you - wouldn't recommend them. It was fun having our own gas grill to cook our meals and enjoy dining together outside, however.
The units themselves are nice and clean. Queen beds in most, so that is disappointing if you are used to sleeping in a king bed - I understand some units do have king beds, but they are limited. I appreciate the comfort of the beds at the Diamond Resorts properties and these met those expectations. The living room furniture could stand to be replaced in both the deluxe and golf deluxe units - they just remodeled the cabins, so the living room furniture in those was very comfortable.
LOCATION: Located away from the chaos of Gatlinburg, but close enough to drive there in 20 minutes. The resort is across the street from the Smoky Mountain Park, however the closest entrance is about 10 minutes away - Greenbriar entrance. Other entrances are at least a 20 minute drive or more. We are not fans of the "strip" of Gatlinburg, so this was the perfect location for us. Since it is located on a golf course, it is in a more quiet and serene setting.
FOOD: We did not eat out while there, as we eat organic - those restaurants not usually found in this area. We brought all of our food since we didn't know what to expect as far as grocery shopping. For those of you who also eat organic - Food City has limited organic fresh fruits and veggies - they also have organic cage free eggs. Whole Earth Grocery has limited fresh & frozen foods and also a good selection of gluten free Bob's Red Mill products. They carry a nice selection of spices and other canned/packaged items.
We will definitely return to this resort - it was a very relaxing stay - so much that I extended my stay with them for a couple extra nights!
