Myself and my two kids stayed here for a few nights at the beginning of our multi-centre trip to the USA. We had a double king suite on the third floor. It was like a spacious apartment and had everything we needed, a comfy sofa bed and dining table and chairs in the dining/kitchen/living area. Remember to ask at reception for anything you need, ie cutlery etc the staff are only too happy to help. The bathroom was large with a huge tub which was great for a soak after a long cold day in the city.
The beds were so comfy and the linen was of a good quality. There were two huge closets with hanging space and space for folded items, an iron, hair dryer, complimentary toiletries and lovely soft towels. Free wi-fi in the room and TV topped off the in room facilities. The huge fridge and freezer came in useful when we bought ice cream from Sprinkles around the corner... cakes and breads to die for and very friendly service.
The shuttle service was free to Manhattan in the mornings and took us to Battery Park to catch the ferry to Liberty Island. Breakfast was included and was basic but welcome.
The staff here are really friendly, it's about $25 in a taxi either way from/to midtown Manhattan and staff are happy to call one for you, taxis accept payment in cash or by card and there is a convenient case machine around the corner in the bank next to Sprinkles. There are loads of restaurants near by and the area feels very safe, the locals let their kids pop to the shop or for an ice cream unattended so that's sign enough for me that it's felt to be pretty safe.
This is a Jewish area and it was a great opportunity to explain to my kids about the Jewish faith and having lived in a Jewish area in London and visited Israel a few times it was nice to be familiar with foods and customs and to enjoy some of the best freshly made bagels I've had in years.
The nearest subway is about 10 minutes walk away and only one change into Manhattan.
The only down side to this hotel in my opinion is that it was so comfy and so much of a home from home that we didn't go out as much as we would have liked to! Great place to relax unwind and recover from jet lag or a late night on New Year's Eve and if you fancy some room service just ask at reception for some recommendations for a take out which will happily deliver to the hotel.
We loved this place and while it is away from the bright lights of the city it is a real haven, value for money and an immaculate place to stay.
Room Tip: We were on 3rd floor with a view of the Manhattan skyline and the new world trade building if we cra...
