“Best stay by accident!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I had originally booked the Best Western on Bay St. and they had an issue with their computers which caused them to overbook on us. They found us this hotel and transferred us and I was concerned with the location of this one. I wanted one on Bay St. However as soon as we walked in, my concerns were gone. The desk staff was friendly and the rooms are awesome. They are large and the decor is very chic. The toilet is separate from the bath so there won't be any bathroom sharing. The room was very clean, fresh, and despite being on a main road, quiet. My 2 year old had ample room to run around and jump on the sofas. I would say the only two complaints I had were the cost of valet parking and the fact that wireless internet is only available in the lobby. Luckily our room was on the first floor so we could access it from our room. We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: First floor room has an advantage because you can access the wireless lobby internet.

MaristKKG,

We are so happy that you happened to stay in our hotel when you had originally been booked at another, and then thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us! Thank you for taking the time to post a review on TripAdvisor. We are proud to hear that you found the front desk staff friendly and your room to be quiet, large, and chic! I apologize that you found the Valet Parking to be costly, and I did want to clarify for your future stays that the wireless internet is actually complimentary throughout our entire hotel, including guest rooms as well! I do apologize if you were given any misinformation regarding the wireless internet only being available in the lobby.

We hope to see you again soon! Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Lee Smith - General Manager

“Nice hotel, close to everything.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This was a nice, newer, modern hotel. Since it just opened a few years ago, the rooms are nice and new. Plenty of space and the wifi worked just fine. Workout room and a lot of cardio equipment for a hotel like this. The only parking is Valet for $15 a day, so that could add up quickly. My biggest complaint is that the lobby smells like perfume...always. This is my second time staying here for business and I would stay again. A short walk to the riverfront restaurants and bars.

bcs1973,

Thank you for staying with us again, and for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. We are happy that you enjoyed the space of the rooms, wi-fi, and fitness center! I apologize that you found the Valet Parking to be pricey. Unfortunately, in Downtown Savannah, space is at a premium and paying to park is common throughout. I hope that you were offered the options of city-parking that are available near the hotel as well. We want our guests to know that they have other options! I also apologize that you did not enjoy the scent in the lobby. We are happy that you continue to return to our hotel, and we hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Lee Smith - General Manager

“SpringHill Suites Savannah Downtown - Just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This hotel like most others in downtown Savannah clearly seems to cater to the tourist market. But that should be no excuse to have less than stellar service, or room maintenance performed. We checked in and got a room on the second floor near the elevators. Surprisingly it was fairly quiet, even with being by the elevators; noise from the hall was not an issue.

The suite itself was clean, had a small refrigerator and microwave, and while small felt very comfortable. The bed was OK, but the heat / air conditioning is provided by a window sill mounted unit. And no matter what hotel I am at, I always find these types of units to be too loud for my tastes. I have now made traveling with earplugs and wearing them at night a necessity for a good night’s sleep – just in case I get a room with this type of heat / AC unit.

The toilet was separate from the shower and we really liked that. While the toilet was small it was large enough for the purpose. There is a sliding door that closes off the toilet area and it came off of its track when opened up – this made it difficult but not impossible to open and close the door.

The shower itself was large which I love, with a tall glass front and glass door. However the water proof seal on the bottom of the door leaked a lot. And after a moderate length shower there was a large puddle of water on the floor. I’ve run in to this before and really hate it as it takes up a bunch of towels to soak up the water. We let the front desk know of the leak, but since we had already unpacked all our bags and settled in decided to just keep the room as we were only staying there two nights.

We asked for and received extra towels to soak up the water for another shower later that evening.

The next day we once again asked the front desk to make sure we had extra towels due to the shower leak. However this time when we returned to our room, while it had been serviced, there were no extra towels left behind. I called the front desk asking for extra towels and it took over an hour to get them. I suppose I could have personally gone to the front desk to get some, but feel that part of good service is for guest services to bring them up – which should have already been done.

Basic internet in the rooms is free, which I feel all hotels should offer. Internet connectivity was good via the hard wire LAN - I did not check to see if there was WiFi but presume there was. The breakfast was also complimentary – it is a basic expanded Continental style, with scrambled eggs and precooked sausage patties. There are also a couple of waffle makers which is always a nice treat. Overall breakfast was good. Coffee and tea is provided 24 hours in the lobby, and there are small coffee makers in the rooms.

All in all this hotel is in a good location to just about anything in downtown Savannah. Our room view was nothing to be impressed by, with the window facing an alley and back side of another building.

I am giving this hotel 3 stars, or an average rating – I would stay here again, giving the hotel one more chance to impress me. But if it didn’t do it that time, I would not stay here again.

robhummer,

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. I am happy that you enjoyed the setup of your room, the breakfast, complimentary internet (we do offer wireless as well), and our location! I sincerely apologize that you did find shortcomings with your stay, in the leaky shower, and in the delay in delivering towels to your room that should have been there upon your return. I can assure you that this is not our usual standard of service, as we strive to keep each guest happy and well taken care of. I appreciate you point these things out so that they may be addressed.

I am happy that you are willing to give us another chance. We'd love to have you back and show you our true colors. Please let our Management team know when you are coming back to Savannah and I will personally see to it that you have a wonderful stay.

Thanks again!

Sincerely,
Lee Smith - General Manager

“Nice Location... Basic Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

This a great hotel for those who plan on spending a lot of time out and about historic Savannah. We were able to walk everywhere. The down side was that the hotel was not up to Marriott standards, IMHO. It was very sparsely decorated and seemed like a lot of corners were cut when it came to decor. Out of all the Marriotts I have been to, this was one seemed odd and like it did not fit with the brand.

all_americanbug,

Thank you for taking the time to review us! We are happy that you enjoyed the location! I apologize that you did not find the decor of our property to your liking. I would like to clarify that we were designed by Marriott, but the design of our hotel is the new Generation 4 SpringHill Suites that you will only see in brand new properties. We do understand that our European/contemporary style does not appeal to everyone, but we thank you for your comments! These are very beneficial to our future guests who may be looking for a more historically decorated property.

Thank you again for taking the time to review us!

Sincerely,
Lee Smith - General Manager
