We come to Ventura every year and we usually stay at the big hotel on beach, but didn't want to pay the outrageous prices this year. Read about Vagabond and decided to take a chance and try something different. I had higher hopes after the reviews I read. I guess we didn't get one of the remodeled rooms that I had been reading about from the manager. I was a little worried when we pulled up, as the parking lot was full. There was some event going on just around the corner, but I was able to find a parking. Front desk staff were super friendly. When I asked if I had a ground floor room I was surprised when the comment was, "yes, there was a request for a room close to the pool, because you have a little one. So we gave you the room right in front of the pool entrance". AWESOME!! Since special request are not always guaranteed. We walked into our non-smoking room, which smelled strongly of smoke, but didn't know if it was our room or the neighboring room(s). . . first thing I noticed as I sat on the bed was pretzel crumbs on the sheets. I just brushed them in the trash can. Then when I went to put some items in the fridge, I found there was already some food in there. . . just threw it in the trash. My daughter complained that her pillows and blankets smelled strongly of beer, but we did not complain. There were many things we could have complained about, but I had a lot of work to do and I was very thankful that the internet problems I had read about were fixed. I had no problems with the internet. My daughter and her baby enjoyed the pool and the room stayed nice and cool all night. There were a lot of "partiers" in the area (I'm guessing because of the event), but the music finally died down. I wasn't bothered by the train. . . not sure if I even heard a train all night. I would stay here again, but would probably request a remodeled room, just to compare. . . More
