“Good Value at Colorado Crossroads”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

At $99+tax, this hotel was the model of well-working systems. Slightly upscale, interior room. Everything about room was convenient and guest-friendly. The great Mexican restaurant Felicia's is a short walk away.

When we stayed here last year, we were frustrated. Lots of little things didn't work right (broken ice machine) or were annoying (1-cup coffee pot). Felt too new, perhaps. We stopped here again reluctantly, but were pleasantly surprised at the improvements and smooth operations.

“Nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2009

I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn for years I was surprised at how nice this Express was. The rooms were a good size and clean. Serviced was super friendly. I would definitely stay again.

“A great one nite stand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2008

My wife and I stayed here for a one nite stand in October. This hotel is definitely close to new. I have stayed in many similar motels while motoring across the USA these past 40 years, so have something to compare this to.

PROS: Very clean. Excellent mattress. Larger than average room including bathroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful in this small town.

CONS: Doors to all the rooms are accessed from an inside carpeted hallway. This was a con for us only because we had a lot of luggage my wife insisted we bring in each nite. It could be a positive during cold weather since cold drafts would be eliminated.

SUMMARY: You won't go wrong here if you are looking for a good nights rest for a reasonable price. For me I demand a clean room with an excellent mattress. Mission accomplished!

  • Liked — Clean. Excellent mattress.
  • Disliked — The facilities wireless internet kept rebooting. They were working on solving it.

“Left out in the cold”

We go to La Junta from Colorado Springs the same weekend in October every year with my in-laws form California. The last 3 of 4 years we have reserved rooms at the Holiday Inn Express. The first year my father-in-law experienced bed bugs. Because of that we stayed at a bed and breakfast the second year. In 2007, we tried the Holiday Inn Express again. We reserved a room through the 800 number because all the websites said we couldn't book on line (a couple months in advance) I booked two non smoking rooms, when we went to check in they could not find our reservation, but were able to find us smoking rooms. This is far from ideal since my son has asthma. After much pressure from us they finally found us a 1 bed room that was non-smoking for our 8 year old son. In 2008, again we were unable to book on line, so I called the hotel directly hoping that I could better communicate that we would definitely need non-smoking rooms and to make sure we they wouldn't "loose" our reservation again. But can you believe it....we went to check in and NO record of our reservation and no rooms at all to offer us! We had to drive around town to try to find a place that at this point would have non-smoking rooms available and explain to our 5 year old why she wouldn't be able to swim that evening (something she had been talking about and looking forward to for weeks). The next morning when we got to our gathering and told people what had happened, I heard from several different people that had happened to several other families!

Why would they allow reservations for rooms that they don't have available? They take so much info from you to make a reservation, why can't they let you know they are overbooked? Why don't they even acknowledge that you have a reservation in the first place? Why don't they allow on line reservations for that weekend so you can have a printout of your confirmation?

All I can say is thank goodness they are building a Hampton Inn down the street. As for our family, we will never stay at the Holiday Inn Express in La Junta (or probably anywhere) again. I think this hotel is a bad apple in the otherwise friendly "smile Hi" city that I grew up in.

  • Liked — kids were able to swim
  • Disliked — the way they handle their reservations, business, etc.

“recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2008

Highly recommended. Very nice and new. Everything clean. Pets are accepted for $20 more. Pet walk area. Good towels. Landscaping is pleasant. Breakfast is FABULOUS!!!! Hot breakfast as well as toast and cereal. Cookies in the afternoon! Hotel has exercise room, pool, hot tub, one computer for free internet access. No Wi-Fi, you need ethernet cable. Room has ironing board, micowave, fridge, coffee maker.... Management, I would like the floor to be better vacuumed please. Otherwise, great stay!!
