“A great find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2007

This inn is a little piece of paradise outiside the hustle of O.C. Quite honestly we were influenced in our choice by the July 2007 review (and we aren't parents). Thanks! ------- The grounds are gorgeous. The interior is beautiful and rich in textures. Our room was immaculate, very comfortable and tastefully decorated. ---- It was fun to have a feel of what it might have been like to be a bit aristocratic. ---- The staff was warm, friendly and down to earth. ---- And the breakfast was fantastic. ---- All components combined it exceeded our expectations for a quiet and romantic getaway with a short drive to the beach and boardwalk.

“Great place for the parents!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2007

I have a beach house in Ocean Pines and was hosting a surprise for my mother's birthday. My brother and sister and their families stayed with me and I needed a nice place outside of Ocean City (didn't want to deal with traffic) to put my parents in for two nights. My parents are not known to be the easiest to please - but they were very happy here!
Everyone at Merry Sherwood was very nice and accomodating. Their room and private bath was very clean. They had a double bed, not a queen. The double bed was fine - but it did look smaller since it was high up. The room was big and had a nice seating area for the grandchildren to visit and the grounds are beautiful and we found them very well maintained.
Our experiences this weekend were completely different from the other posters. My father is an avid gardener and lives on 20 acres, so he felt right at home and actually got some tips from the inn keeper for his garden. We had a wonderful picnic brunch on the grounds on Sunday.
It was a great weekend and I would definitely recommend this place and put my parents there. Two minor drawbacks - there are a lot of stairs - my parents room was on the top floor - that coupled with the porch steps did tire my 76 year old father out, but our solution was to only have him go up once and come down once. The other was that their room was at the front of the house and 113 is a busy road - traffic was not a problem as they live in NYC, and the window unit hum was good white noise, but if you aren't use to a window unit or street noise you might want to request a room in back.
Again, i can only stress how pleased we were with this b&b and would definitely recommend it to other friends and family.

  • Liked — clean b&b; very friendly staff
  • Disliked — a lot of stairs - could be difficult for some travellers

“You can never go home again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2006

We stayed at the Merry Sherwood when it first opened. We loved it, we stayed in the honeymoon suite. We had always wanted to repeat our experience, we had fond memories. Well, so much for memories. The two people working the house and the kitchen were wonderful. If you go onto the website and view the size of the plantation you may understand why two people are not enough to maintain the level of service that should be offered at this plantation.

Our first hint that something was wrong were the overgrown grounds, next came the unswept porch, and then our wait to be greeted even though we had just called on our way into Berlin. Truthfully my first hint should have been that the website had not been updated in years, but I wistfully kept checking it thinking of my pleasant memories. Now I was really nervous.

As we proceeded to the second floor we were shown to our room, which other than the honeymoon suite was the only other room on that floor with a private bathroom. The two rooms to our left were beautiful, but no private bath. We paid more money to have the private bath. What a room, what a surprise. Where shall I start, the broken armoire, the broken window shade, the smallest bed in the house put in one of the biggest rooms in the house(not even a double bed, let alone the usual queen bed), the horriblely tacky bedspread from a one room beach house that was polyester and something I probably would not have put down on my dogs beds. This was my birthday trip, the only one I would get this year at the shore. Did we want to move to another room, yes, but we would have to share a bath, which was not what we paid for or wanted to do.

Oops, I forgot a few things like the vintage childs dress in our wardrobe with a sweet little note that asked you to be careful as this was an antique. It was hard to read that note as it and that little dress were pinned to the wardrobe by a rusty old screen. The room was not nice, the bed was really not nice. My husband and I are not large people, but I found myself clinging to him trying not to fall out of our inappropriately sized bed.

So, Berlin was wonderful, I just wondered what happened to the man that years ago had lovingly restored this plantation and what new interests he has now. If he is restoring another old house, meant to be a B&B, and it's fresh and new and loved, as I once remember this property was, I want to stay there for my birthday.

  • Liked — The house is filled with beautiful antiques
  • Disliked — Inappropriate choices as to priorities
  • Tips/Secrets — Make sure you are able to look at room you are booking and the site has been recently updated

Beautifully and lovingly restored, this elegant Inn was a feast for the eyes! The inn keeper was friendly and knowledgable. Her breakfasts were delicious and the inn was clean and extremely well maintained. We spent a romantic, quiet and enjoyable weekend here. I highly recommend this delightful inn!
