The Exploratorium was on our list of maybes. After doing the Alcatraz tour at 8:30, then walking along the Pier, stopping at Boudin's bakery for bread, and having lunch at Pizza napoletano, it was 2 oclock and we had finished our must do list. we decided to go to the Exploratorium as we still had 2 hours. The kids ages 10 and 13 loved it so much my son wanted to go back the next day. We have been members of the museum of Science which in Boston for over a decade but our dear museum can't compare to the Exploratium Some of the exhibits you see similarly in science museums everywhere, but the Exploratium took it to another level. There was so much to see and do both for the adults and the kids. We first entered on the outdoor park, which had a bridge which emitted fog, a rain machine a torus playground structure, and several hand wheels which spun a circular rope that the kids would jump through. And inside there were fascinating exhibits on hearing, sound, vision, etc. that we ran out of time. Highly recommended. And the kids definitely liked this much better than the Academy of Sciences.
