“Not bad.”

This is a fairly simple review to write. I think this place is all about expectations. The reviewers below are obviously disappointed, which leads me to believe that they weren't realistic about what to expect.

Boston is an expensive city to stay in. Even if you don't want to stay at a Back Bay luxury hotel, anything within walking distance of downtown will cost a pretty penny. Presidents' City is the answer for those that don't mind a train ride and can put up with some imperfections.

The train ride is about 20 minutes to downtown and the station is a ten minute walk away. It is an easy walk and the neighborhood does not seem dangerous like some reviews claim. I had no problems walking after dark.

The rooms aren't incredible...there were a few chips on a door frame, a small dent in the wall, a hole where a small nail must have been...but certainly nothing disgusting or dangerous. The beds are comfortable enough and everything is functional. The service was courteous and easy with no bells and whistles.

In the end...if you want The Ritz, shell out the money and pay for it. Don't force your luxury expectations on a place like this, which will fall short every time. But if you want a cheap, comfortable hotel with easy access to downtown Boston (and you are willing to put up with a few cosmetic flaws) there's no reason not to stay at Presidents' City Inn.

“Disgusting, do not stay here!”

We booked this hotel while enroute from NYC to Boston. What a mistake. Website is misleading, this place is a dump. Room was filthy. Dirt on sheets, pillowcases with hair on them, stuff on the wall in bathroom. Room obviously hadn't been cleaned and the sheets hadn't been changed in quite awhile. My kids couldn't sleep and we didn't even use the shower, that's how bad this place was. It was only one night but it was horrible. Avoid this place, do not stay here.

“not bad for the price”

Unfortunately I had already booked our room at the PCI when I read the earlier reviews and honestly thought about cancelling. Well I didn't and we went ahead, we were tired and drained after our flight from the UK and then battling Boston traffic in a rental car, with the recently read reviews still at the foremost of my mind. Anyway it was nowhere near as bad as I had expected. The two double bedded room was very large and clean, the sheets and blankets were clean as were the towels and the shower room, alright the sheets and towels had seen better days but as I said before they were clean. There was a full set of toiletries in the bathroom , the shower curtain was clean, in fact for what it was and cost, I could not fault it. Its location is not in the nicest area, but on the night we stayed it was quiet and there was no trouble. So for the price and as long as you are not expecting the Ritz it is good value for money.

“A very nice motel for the money; helpful staff at check-in”

I have trouble understanding the negative critiques of this motel. To be sure, it wouldn't classify as 5-star. But for the money, relative to other motels and hotels in the Boston area, it seemed a good value. Even though the front desk area is not Taj Mahal, I found the person at the check-in desk very helpful, providing me with lots of information on site-seeing and use of the famous transit system, The T, that has a station located within walking distance. For the four days that I stayed there, my room was kept neat and clean. I had no complaints, and I am one to complain if there is anything to complain about. I can recommend this motel to anyone visiting the Boston area.

“A little dumpy, but the only "value" in the area...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

Nothing chic here! However, VERY fast, free wifi and basic accomodations for anyone simply needing a place to lay your head. I would highly recommend either bringing your own pillow or asking for extras.
