This is a fairly simple review to write. I think this place is all about expectations. The reviewers below are obviously disappointed, which leads me to believe that they weren't realistic about what to expect.
Boston is an expensive city to stay in. Even if you don't want to stay at a Back Bay luxury hotel, anything within walking distance of downtown will cost a pretty penny. Presidents' City is the answer for those that don't mind a train ride and can put up with some imperfections.
The train ride is about 20 minutes to downtown and the station is a ten minute walk away. It is an easy walk and the neighborhood does not seem dangerous like some reviews claim. I had no problems walking after dark.
The rooms aren't incredible...there were a few chips on a door frame, a small dent in the wall, a hole where a small nail must have been...but certainly nothing disgusting or dangerous. The beds are comfortable enough and everything is functional. The service was courteous and easy with no bells and whistles.
In the end...if you want The Ritz, shell out the money and pay for it. Don't force your luxury expectations on a place like this, which will fall short every time. But if you want a cheap, comfortable hotel with easy access to downtown Boston (and you are willing to put up with a few cosmetic flaws) there's no reason not to stay at Presidents' City Inn.
