“A wonderful retreat”

Our second time staying at the Primrose Inn was as pleasant and restful and the first. We were not sure about B&B's because we are private people and don't always like to mingle during our infrequent vacations. But we had no cause to worry at the Primrose. Jeff and Kathrine Shaw are top-notch hosts, the rooms are comfy and quiet (even though our room was right across the hall from the kitchen, we were never disturbed by kitchen noise), and the food is excellent. They have two choices for breakfast, either an egg dish or something special like pancakes and French toast. All yummy!! I cannot say enough good things about the Primrose Inn, except that we plan to stay there again and have recommended it to several friends.

“Wonderful stay”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Primrose Inn, the owners have thought about everything to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. There are complimentary drinks, snacks, DVDs, computer and printer to use, hot and cold drinks, a wine fridge for chiling your wine, leaflets and guides for all the nearby attractions, GPS's, kindles, newspapers etc etc! We had a lovely room (room 9) with a fire, porch with a swing and rocking chairs, jacuzzi bath and plenty of space, it was very clean, the bed comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay. The inn is conveniently located a short walk from the town centre and a short drive to Acadia National Park. Check in time is pretty strict, so don't arrive before 4pm (!) and the tour of the Inn is thorough on arrival. The breakfasts are large with plenty of choice although a couple of dishes weren't to our taste. Having said this, this one one of the best places we stayed in on our trip so we would thoroughly recommend the Primrose Inn.

“Best out of 4 B&Bs”

There were 4 of us who toured the coast of Maine staying in 4 B&Bs along the way. The Primrose Inn was by far the best of all. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as can be. The rooms and bathrooms are tastefully restored and spotlessly clean and the afternoon tea and breakfast is delicious. They offer movies, a recorded audio tour of Acadia, snacks, soft drinks, and bottled water anytime. I would highly recommend a stay at the Primrose.

“A hidden jewel”

I stayed at the Primrose for the second time this year and I love it. The homemade breakfasts, afternoon tea and snacks, the DVD's and hiking guides you can borrow...there are so many amenities! The rooms are comfy and quiet. They even have white noise machines you can borrow during your stay for light sleepers like myself. The walk into town is short and pleasant and the drive to a park entrance is minutes away. Their food is so good we asked for a couple of recipes which they xeroxed for us. I would highly recommend 100%

Room Tip: Room #6 is the least expensive and is very comfy, roomy, and a great value

“Keeps Getting Better, If That's Possible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We've stayed at the Primrose a number of times and never dreamed our experience could be any better. What's the same? Catherine and Jeff are hospitable and friendly, helpful and accommodating, The room and furnishings were comfortable and charming. For breakfast, I had the Nantucket Pie. Denise chose blueberry pancakes and we both enjoyed sides of canadian bacon, perfect melon and banana nut muffins. The Inn is quiet at the appropriate times and, during the afternoon, classical or jazz plays at just the right level in the parlor. So, what's new? A full porch in the rear with rocking chairs, beautiful new wall paper in the hallway and Kindles with the Washington Post and New York Times, as well as Chambers' classic My Utmost For His Highest and other literary works. Denise was wowed by the growing selection of fine teas. The Primrose is also strategically located within walking distance between three other Bar Harbor attractions we love: The Morning Glory Bakery, Cafe This Way and the laundromat, right down the street next to the auto repair shop. What more could the weary traveler ask for?

Room Tip: The room on the second floor, facing Mt. Dessert St. is the best!
