“A few issues, but they were rectified”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We stayed 4 nights in mid September, 2011, in Cabin 5 which was very newly renovated. It was really nicely done, nice furniture, etc. Before making reservations, we asked about a portable crib and were told they had one, and that they would just have to find it. Got there, and they did not have one. Our one year old was not able to sleep on the bed, so thankfully they did go out and get a new pack and play (thank you!).
The cabin was FREEZING upon our arrival, with no heaters, furnace, or working fireplace and some pretty cold weather. They did bring over two space heaters (one functional, one not), which did heat up the place pretty quickly, and it stayed nice and warm with that, other than the bathroom which was chilly for our entire stay. The decorative fireplace still had a fully functional chimney (ie. a 12 inch square hole for heat to escape!) so we stuffed it with newspaper to keep out some of the cold. Seems it should be closed off!
For the first afternoon of our arrival, an employee was pressure washing a vehicle right out in front of our cabin for several hours, which made for a noisy day and gave us fears of the rest of our time. Thankfully, that ended and the next 3 days were pleasant.
The kichen did not have a microwave, which was sort of a suprise, as we had grocery shopped on the way from the airport and bought food expecting a microwave!
We did not have much free time to explore the grounds of the cottages, but it looked very pretty. It was a nice place to stay, and we would not hesitate to stay again, though our start was rocky!!

WE spent 3 days in cabin 14 the last of September. It was completely updated with new apllicances and a lot of attention to details in the decor , very nice and clean. Staff were great and the location is close to Bar Harbor.. Quiet atmosphere... Enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend. We had everything we needed and will be back.

Room Tip: Stayed in cabin 14 very nice

“Clean, inexpensive, great location, pet friendly.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

This place is a no-brainer for a long weekend get away on the cheap. The cabins are located within minutes of downtown Bar Harbor and the visitor's entrance to Acadia. My dog and I stayed in cabin 8a which is located at the rear of the property backing up to a wooded area to a grassy field with a stunning mountain view, very private. There was a small porch off the back, nice to sit out there in the morning while my dog putzed about in the field. The decor in our cottage was very dated but not offensive, it was very cozy, simple, cabin like, perfect place to come back to after a long day of hiking. The cabin came with all the essentials, fridge, bathroom, toaster, coffee maker, utensils, dishes, cable tv., bed, chair, table, etc. Everything was clean They do provide towels, but they are on the small/non-fluffy side, so I would recommend to bring your own. Bed linens were clean but out of date, I always bring my own sheets and blankets anyhow. I got some wi-fi on the back porch of our cabin. Rate was very low, something like $90 per night, cheap.

“Bar Harbor at its best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

We stayed in Cabin 23 and it was newly painted and very clean. The location is fantastic I can't even begin to describe the Bar Harbor experience.
Thanks to all the staff for their dead on recommendations of things to see.
Will be back next year.

Room Tip: Big and comfy

“Stay away from cabin 23”

Stayed here recently with family and because there were 7 of us we were looking for a larger cabin. Stumbled upon this one and decided to try it for a couple of days. None of us were impressed with the facility. It felt like we were staying in a tent as the smell and dampness was terrible. The only thing that saved us was that the weather was great and therefore we did not have to spend much time in the cabin.
I cannot believe that this cabin would pass any health and safety inspection by any agency. There were no smoke alarms which was disconcerting. The stairway to the upper floor is narrow and a hazard for anyone going up or down. Outdoor light did not work at the front door and when we came back one evening after getting off the shuttle bus we had to be very careful walking to the cabin as it was impossible to see any tripping hazards. This was no picnic table for this cabin.
I could go on but you get the picture. I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. I cannot comment on the other cabins at Hinkley's but CABIN 23 is not worth staying in at any price.

Room Tip: Cabin 23 is a wreck, stay away.
