“Just Doesn't Cut It For A Marriott!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

I've stayed here before and have been hoping Marriott would make the investment to do the remodeling needed to bring this otherwise 5 star potential resort up to the standards it once had...it is an older facility but right in the middle of Tumon Bay...perfect setting. However, there is no wifi connections in the rooms. You need to go either to the lobby or Exec Club to get a wifi connection...the pool area needs a lot of attention. The TVs in the rooms are circa 1990. Overall, fixtures need upgrading and some real attention to the details one would expect from a Marriott property...

“Excellent Beach Front Property”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

First and foremost, the employees of this hotel make the difference. They are superb in every way. They remember your name, greet you and make the effort to ensure that your visit is accomodating in every way possible.

The property could use a renovation but it is still in good shape. The economic situation has probably left them in a postion where some upgrades were delayed. The long and short of it is that you will get a tube TV, the bathroom looks a bit 70'ish, but the bed is comfortable and the internet works pretty good. For the Marriott premium traveller, you can expect an invitation to the top floor lounge nightly where excellent snacks ( hot and cold ) and free beverages will help you finish your day.

The pool is well maintained and the beach front area has some amazing reefs. You can also walk for a good while in each direction and get to some other amazing reef areas. The sunsets from any of the balconys is amazing as well as the sunrises.

Food at the hotel is general fare and room service is average. The room service delivery is super accurate and most times very quick.

The hotel offers many concierge services that work out well. The staff is well versed to handle any question that may arise.

Parking at the hotel is usually available and ample. When there is a larger event, parking becomes difficult and hotel guests have to compete with visitors for spots and you may have to park several levels down.

Overall, for Guam this hotel is accomodating. There maybe another chain that is newer, but I give the employees a few bonus points for the great service.

“A sub-par Marriott”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Having stayed at other Marriotts in the region, my expectations were high for the Marriott Resort and Spa in Guam. However, this hotel disappointed in nearly every capacity. In terms of esthetics, the only redeeming part of the hotel is the lobby. Everything else (rooms, halls, parking lot, facade) looks worn by the climate (mold, cracking, etc.) and long overdue for renovation.

The lobby has free wifi, but the staff has to enter the password in your device (they won't divulge the password to you). Unless you are a Rewards member, they charge for the wifi in the rooms. The lobby has complimentary juice - and that's about it. Everything else (e.g. coffee) comes with a $3 or $4 fee. The breakfast buffet is nice, but seriously expensive. The pool was underwhelming and so were the surrounding grounds.

The location is not that great either - it's a bit of a walk to several restaurants, bars, etc.

Bottom line: I was shocked at the quality of this facility. There are several other hotels down the strip (Outrigger, Hyatt) that appeared much, much nicer.

“This is a Marriott?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

First off let me say that I am a very experienced traveler and have stayed at over two dozen Marriotts over the years. This was by far the worst. It was so bad that it compelled me to sign up on trip advisor and write a review. I will break down my experience in three areas: The lobby, the grounds, and the room.

Lobby: The lobby was clean, and modern but was lacking one key thing...people. I did not see a sole for the three days I stayed there. As I looked out the window to the neighboring hotel there were people coming out of the rafters. My spidey senses were on alert. The staff was friendly and courteous and the lobby was clean and even had some free juice and free wi-fi (You had to actually hand your device to a staff member so they could input the password). By far the best part of the hotel.

Grounds: The growth was so bad on the exterior of the hotel it could be picked out from over 10 miles away. It could really use a good power washing....like ASAP. The pool area was clean however the pool was a bit cloudy. Again there was something lacking, people. For being a resort I did not see a lot of people. I thought "Maybe it is the off season" but upon checking into the next hotel I knew this was not the case. I chose not to go into the pool because it was cloudy and had a lot of debris in it. I am not a big spa guy but I did want to get a massage because we had just traveled two days to get there...the Spa was closed.

Rooms: This was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. As soon as I got to my floor the entire hall smelled like BO. As I opened the door I was greeted with the sweet smell of mildew. As I was changing from my shoes to flip flops I put my bare foot on the ground and the entire carpet was damp. The reason that i decided to move hotels was that i dropped something under the sink in the bathroom and when I looked up I was greeted by exposed beams and black mold growing on them! That would probably explain the splitting headache I had and the upper respiratory tract infection I am fighting off now. I will attached some pictures in a moment.

We ended up moving to the Hilton and it was like a while new world. As soon as we entered the lobby there were people laughing having a good time, weddings happening, and free breakfast. As soon as i opened my suitcase i realized how bad the moisture problem was because all of the contents of my suitcase were soggy. The rooms in the Hilton were far superior and for the same price we got free internet, free breakfast and avoided getting the black lung. The Hilton also had a huge pool area with a slide and a very impressive cultural dance show at the outside dinning area. I am actually contacting my government travel office we used to book the rooms and telling them to take the Marriott off of the list because it was so bad.

tl:dr; Don't stay at the Marriott unless you want to get sick.

Room Tip: Don't stay here...

“Good but showing its age”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Spent a week here and found the hotel adequate but aging. Noise at night from family resort a bit annoying (although in fairness it stopped at ~ 10:00). Pool very nice and staff very friendly. Beach a bit bare but easy access. Breakfast buffet was terrific but lunch and dinner over-priced. Room accommodations are fine but bathrooms could use an upgrade. Rates very reasonable so very good for business but if vacationing there are better places.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view. I suggest a room not on the side of the large resort next door.
