“Bathroom in Kitchen”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

This place is OK, but quite a disappointment considering the price. The yard and pool are heavily overgrown, and the pool is cold with no sun getting to it. The room was dingy by day and noisy by night with other people's AC units clanking and banging, cutting in and out. We had the largest room, with the King and Queen bed, which really cram up all available space. The bed was comfortable at least, but what really put us off was the kitchen being inside the bathroom; you'd better time your cooking and bodily function requirements carefully. Others have mentioned the one time only "breakfast" which consisted of a .79 cent pineapple and 4 stale bagels with a small pot of jam - they're bang on about that, and also about your hostess vanishing after your first meeting. We took this because we went at the last minute and this was all we could find at the time. If you have time to shop around try to find another place.

Room Tip: Don't get the big room with the King and Queen unless you're OK with having a toilet in the...

“Perfect spot, nice owner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

This lpace isl ocated in Kailua (East side of Oahu). The owner has 3 rooms available. Try to get the biggest one (it has a queen and king, even though you will only use the king). It is a nice size room, you can use the queen bed to storre/sort your stuff. It has an ice bathroom with big closet and micorave and refrigerator. This place is perfect since you will be out and about doing stuff all day, you don't need anything fancy. It has a pool as well. It is VERY conveinently located to everything. You can walk to many shops and breakfast. You can walk to beach as well (long walk). None the less, perfect spot. Don't forget to go to Boots-n-Kimo for breakfast.
Keep in mind, this is just a place to stay for a few days. I wouldn't recommend it LONG term as it isn't really a daily bed and breakfast. Mostly, just a place (a nice friendly quaint place) to crash. You can get as friendly as you want with the owner for suggestions etc, but we didn't feel we neeed any true local insight, and honestly it wasn't really offered. But, again, not really needed. It would be nice if they haqd some beach equipment for you to use/rent. Although, sh=e will give you towels.

“Relaxing and laid-back base for Kailua”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

We stayed here with our 1-year old baby and it was ideal. Kailua the town is only half an hour drive from Waikiki but is a different world - very relaxed and much fewer people. The beach is perfect for kids (we drove around the island one day to find another beach for the day, but they were all closed due to rough seas, when we came back to Kailua it was just as tranquil as ever) The town itself is very close (walking distance) from this property, so was very convenient as I could have a drink in the evening and not worry about driving home.

The room we stayed in (Lanai suite) was clean, airy, and very big. Barbara, the host, was there to welcome us despite us arriving late at night, and recommended local places of interest and restaurants etc. There is something quite ethereal and other-worldly about her, and gave an impression of never being phased by anything - perfect for a holiday hostess!

We loved our stay here and would definitely come back.

“Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful”

Pillows in Paradise was an excellent value...much cheaper than other places we checked and turned out to be so peaceful, clean, and a great location, close to the beach and the town. The owners, Barbara and Lionel, were available most of the time if anything came up, but not in our faces. The place was so quiet, we had the pool almost to ourselves most of the time. We were provided with fresh beach towels whenever needed and our beds and towels changed whenever we requested. I would recommend this place very highly to anyone visiting Oahu. Our stay was two weeks.

“A Disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2009

We travel a lot and frequently stay at B&Bs because they are usually charming and offer wonderful insights into the community. We were very disappointed with Pillows in Paradise. It was more like rent a room/daily rates than a Bed and Breakfast. We were booked for three nights and left after two.

While our Lanikai room was clean and spacious, the air conditioner hissed and clanked all night. Access to the room was from street parking through two small gates that made moving suitcases difficult. No information such as local restaurant menus or written directions to places of interest was provided.

Barbara greeted us graciously, and we never saw her again. We had the option of calling her cell phone. The website says a complimentary welcome breakfast basket will be provided for the first morning. It was fruit and a coffee cake from the grocery bakery. Breakfast was up to us for the remainder of our stay- not my idea of a Bed and Breakfast. A note on the table said there would be an additional $35 charge if we did not wash our own dishes.

There was a decided lack of hospitality at Pillows in Paradise, which did not match our expectations.
