“Molokai experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I booked the Hotel Molokai as it seemed liked the only hotel on the island and I wasn't sure how it would be but I was very pleasantly surprised. The Hotel has a very relaxing, old Hawaii feel. The rooms were older but very comfortable, in the old Hawaii style with high beam ceilings, jalousie windows and a nice deck with table and chairs. We didn't need A/C as we had nice sea breezes from the open windows. Very relaxing. The restaurant has a beautiful view right on the ocean. We had a wonderful, relaxing breakfast with the ocean right next to us. We wish we could have stayed longer. Sumu was very helpful and friendly to us when we checked out.

“Relaxing on Molokai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Wonderful staff and management at the hotel. Every night there is local music at the poolside bar. Musicians play from local Hawaiian music, country and western, blues and a bit of rock and roll. They only play from 6-8pm, 9 pm at the latest so it doesn't bother those who want to sleep. Each night is different band.
Molokai is an island for relaxing and sight seeing. There is very little night life but after a day in the sun, there isn't much energy left after watching the sunset. The front desk can arrange tours, hikes, whale watching and snorkelling. The only downside is the beach at the hotel which is not suitable for swimming as it is very shallow and becomes very narrow when the tide is in. You can watch whales jumping just beyond the barrier reef while having a cool drink at the bar. Very friendly crowd of locals and visitors. Michael the manager is always available to help out.

Rooms are dated but adequate. They have a small kitchenette (2 burners, microwave, coffee maker and small frig). There is a small resort fee ($2.50 per day) but it covers all phone calls (to mainland and local) and wireless internet. They gave us a small gift (thermos) which they filled each morning from the hotel restaurant if needed at no charge. The hotel supplies ear plugs to offset the sound of roosters crowing in the morning. We didn't use them and it was nice to get an early start. The rooms have AC and fans but we only used the fans. Grounds are well kept and a number of hammocks available for snoozing and reading.

Overall a nice relaxing place for couples and friends not recommended for the action crowd.

“Loved it”

Have had five nights here, wonderful staff, Hula Shores restaurant has exceptional food and wonderful service. Love the island, everyone is friendly. The whales put on an incredible show, as did the porpoise and turtles. Need a car though, the hotel is too far out of town to walk. Came here for the "Hawaiian" experience, and found it. Three star hotel, five star service. Mahalo!

“Hotel Molokai - Great island experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

From the moment we arrived at Hotel Molokai we were treated like family (ohana). Mind you, we arrive at about 9pm exhausted and very hungry. The cafe had stopped serving food but they saw how hungry we were and just happened to have a pot of soup and home made bread still warm for us.

The activity at the hotel was fantastic - if you're going to Molokai you cannot miss the Friday night show where the locals get together to serenade, play ukulele and take turns dancing the hula.

Hotel Molokai is a quaint little island resort - arriving on property we were transported back to life at a slower pace. They have all the amenities, including wifi and cell phone service, a cute little store full of local crafts and the beachfront pool was very inviting.

I will recommend this resort to all of my Clients coming to Hawaii - you must make time to visit Molokai!

Room Tip: Pay the extra to reserve an oceanfront room to fully enjoy the view

“Fantastic time and wonderful people”

I recently had the chance to hop over to Molokai for a couple of days. What a great experience. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is fantastic. It is right on the water which makes it nice. Not a swimming beach but great for Kayaking or Paddleboarding.
While you are there I highly recommend taking the Alii Tour with Molokai Outdoors . it is an educational and fun experience.
Also I do recommend you get a car on Molokai. There isn't public transporatoin.
I also recommend when staying at the hotel, you request a 2nd floor unit, a great breeze that comes through since there is NO AC..
I give it a 5 star all the way around..
:-)

Room Tip: 2nd Floor..
