This was our first trip to Kauai and we were very happy with our choice of Kauai Beach Resort. The grounds are beautiful and impeccably maintained, with a pristine pool area and overall relaxing atmosphere. We had an ocean view room on the third floor and were not disappointed. We brought our binoculars along and could see whales from our balcony! The rooms and decor aren't brand new but are very clean and have an island feel that fits in with Kauai.
The beach right at the resort is quite rocky and not swimmable, but if you walk for 5 or 10 minutes north along the sand you can find places to swim.
This resort is in a perfect location for exploring the whole island, as it's located between Waimea Canyon and the North Shore. As others have mentioned, you will need a car to get around. There are supermarkets nearby - we bought boxes of cereal for breakfast to save a bit of money because the resort's restaurant prices really add up over 7 days. The room has a mini fridge which we kept milk and drinks in.
The internet in the rooms wasn't free, but you can get free wifi in the lobby area.
We paid to park our car each day on the resort grounds. Despite what others have said it's really not that far to walk from the car park to your room! It took us a couple of minutes at the most. If the car park was located right next to the rooms people would be writing reviews on this website complaining about having a view of the car park... so you can't please everyone! Personally I don't mind walking for a couple of minutes if it means I get beautiful views from my balcony.
Overall we would stay here again; although we're not big 'resort' people, it was in such a central location to explore all of Kauai.
Room Tip: Our ocean view room was midway along building 3, which was good because at the ends of the building...
