“AMAZING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We stayed at the South Kona Hideaway for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. We stayed in "the lookout" which had seriously gorgous views. The breakfast was unbelievable each morning. The owner is full of usefull information if you need help deciding what to do, but it's hard to leave because the room is gorgous!!! It's close to great snorkelling spots and the place of refuge, but you'd still want a car (which I'd recommend no matter where you stay because theres alot to see and do and it's pretty spread out and car hire is pretty cheap). Sunset beers on the balcony are defintely a good way to enjoy and relax! Would recommend any day!

“Perfect retreat minutes away from amazing snorkeling”

We stayed at the South Kona Hideaway in July and had a fantastic time. We were greeted every morning with a mouth-watering breakfast filled with tropical fruit, freshly baked bread, eggs, and Kona coffee. We loved the lush scenery and jaw-dropping sunsets from our deck as well. And it was only minutes away from some of the best snorkeling on the Kona coast at the Place of Refuge and Captain Cook Monument. We were also given tons of recommendations of good places to eat in the area, so we avoided many of the Kona tourist traps. Overall, a great place to stay if you want access to everything that the Kona Coast has to offer, but seclusion and relaxation in a low key setting. Would definitely come back again!

“Peaceful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

South Kona Hideaway is located in a smaller side street so that place is very quiet and peaceful. They have only 2 rooms total so you will definitely have privacy while you stay there. We stayed in a lookout room (smaller room of the 2) and the view is amazing. The host, Lou, was also very nice. He left us alone but always there if we need him. We love coffee and we love that they have Kona coffee and coffee machine in the room.

We will definitely go back if we decide to go back to South Kona.

“8th Wonder of the world...... Hidden Gem!”

The title should answer all that you need to know!

Beautiful surroundings, quiet, great opportunity to do some nature watching, but most spectacular moment of my Hawaiian holiday was sitting on the balcony of The Lookout watching the sunset. The sunset was breathtaking and gave you goose bumps, The Lookout provided a perfect surronding to sit back and watch this glorious moment.

Arriving to Lou's South Kona Hideaway, I walked in the room dropping my huge travelling rucksack and said this place is truely amazing Lou! The attention to detail, cleanliness and home yet luxury feel of The Lookout was second to none.

Lou is a fantastic host, his knowledge of the area and island is fantastic, he is very accommodating and understanding.. I felt very much home from home with someone I felt I had known for a long time. Breakfast is divine and possibly the best meal i had in on my 14days of Island hopping around Hawaii, I wanted a second serving :-)

South Kona is awe-inspiring, breathtaking, beautiful and should be somewhere everyone who visits The Big Island stays. I am sad my stay was short and would plan a return trip to Hawaii JUST to go back to South Kona Hideaway.

Need I say anymore? ....Book now!!!!

“Heaven on Big Island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

What an amazing vacation made all the more spectacular by Lou and South Kona Hideaway!
This is the place to stay if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle. We stayed in the Lookout room and the views of the surrounding area and ocean are breathtaking. Do not be mistaken, this is a rural area and we chose it for that reason. We wanted to be living as the locals live, and not slap in the middle of the tourist action and the South Kona Hideaway delivered!
Our suite was well appointed and most important for us, great bed, great view, good shower and a kitchenette. Rising early with the time change can be an issue but all was resolved when we got up early, ground our own fresh Kona coffee, relaxed, decided on the day and then ate wonderful fresh fruit and breads Lou dropped off for breakfast.
Lou is a fantastic host, there when you need him, gone when you don't. He suggested places to eat that were wonderful as well as places to shop that equally delighted.
Though it had no impact on our trip, there are roosters. And they crow early in the morning, but for us they just added to overall experience.
We highly recommend the South Kona Hideaway and look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Lookout room as wonderful views!
