“Great Old West Ambiance”

We stayed at The Wolf on 9/16/11 while travelling from Jackson Hole to RMNP. We pre-booked a two room suite (S-17) for $90 + tax. The 2nd floor suite consists of a spacious bedroom with a massive bed furnished with beautiful linens, a separate sitting area with a small sofa & coffee table and bathroom with shower (high ceilings throughout). A large flat screen was mounted on the wall between the rooms & pivoted to allow viewing from either the sitting area or the bed. Nice touch. Wonderful large windows let in lots of light & fresh air on a beautiful September late afternoon/evening. The stairs to the 2nd floor are steep but we had no problems carrying our overnight & laptop bags up. We made dinner reservations at check-in, went out to explore Saratoga, then headed back to the Wolf saloon for drinks before dinner. Unfortunately, peanut shells were strewn all over the main part of the Saloon floor & my husband’s severe peanut allergy prevented us from sitting there (we had mentioned his allergy when booking online). At dinner, we were seated at a cramped table in a corner of the dining room, not the way to welcome registered guests of the Hotel. Food was good, service was a bit slow. Overall though, we would recommend the Wolf Hotel – great Western ambiance & we appreciate the proprietors’ efforts in preserving this beautiful historic property.

“Affordable history in small town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

The staff behind the bar who checked us in was friendly. My family of four (including 2 teens) stayed in suite 20. It was the farthest back from the bar and restaurant. So, we had no trouble with late night noise. The room was clean with a few areas of peeling paint and squeaky floors, as to be expected in an old building. I was glad to have my husband and teen son with us since we had to haul our own luggage up a flight of very steep stairs. The rooms lack air-conditioning. So, we had to sleep with windows open even during a rain shower. Since the bathrooms are retrofits, the shower was TINY. Additionally, we could have used more comfortable seating in the living area. It included a sleeper sofa, one cushioned chair, and two hard-seated straight-backed chairs. The beds were comfortable with pretty patterned linens. They do not serve breakfast.

“An Affordable Getaway with lots to do!”

Besides a great restaurant and saloon at the hotel, it has a relaxed the atmosphere is with lots of friendly people. It's a place to let go of your cell phone and need for wifi. You can easily walk and enjoy this whole town. Not to mention a fun 9 hole golf course, hot springs(emphasis on hot) 24/7 no charge, great way to start the day. Plenty of fly fishing just blocks away on the North Platte,a fun place to cruise on your bike. The drive up to Mirror Lake, in the Snowy Range, is a great drive and offers a nice hike around the lake. It certainly beats the I-70 corridor mountain traffic. Take HWY 287out of Ft. Collins to Laramie, then to Hwy 130 to Saratoga for the quicker and more scenic route. Totally casual attire for this trip.

“Fun hotel, Okay restaurant”

We stayed in a suite here this summer and it was a great hotel. The place is an old west experience with great charm. Our beds were really comfortable and I never like hotel beds. The service was adequate-- there was not a desk person around the clock, but it seemed to work out fine.
I would not recommend the restaurant. The staff gave us a little speech about the importance of making reservations even though there were tables available. The food was overpriced and we waited a considerable amount of time for steaks that were definitely not representative of cattle country. FYI- Don't miss the free hot springs!
