As a seasoned business traveler, I regularly stay at Americinns throughout the upper midwest. A few are RAT TRAPS - this hotel the worst I have seen - an absolute dump. My $70 rate got me a ground floor room accross the hall from the ice machine, which leaked and soaked the hallway carpet as well as the lead-in to my room. Hotel wreaked of cigarettes. The door to my room was missing the chain, so no backup lock. Hair found throughout the bathroom - long black hair (I have high & tight gray hair), half used bottle of shampoo on edge of shower. Coffee maker was canabolized. Beds were soft - right on down to the floor. Pillows were hard and thin, sheets and blankets not too far behind. The desk with chair were both loose and ready to fall apart. This place needs a complete overhaul.
I would suggest staying at the brand new Days Inn, Microtel, or Best Western.

I have spent the last 3 months travelling in the state of Wisconsin on business. I've been booked in Country Inn and Suites, Holiday Inn Express and Fairmont in many not so big cities and they've all been quite nice. I had never stayed in an Americinn and never will again, although I know the one in Monona (near Madison) WI is pretty nice.

The lobby furniture and carpet were stained and dirty, the walls needed to be painted, the windows in the common areas looked like they had not been washed in years. The whole place smelled of cigarette smoke and the ashtrays at the main and rear entrances were filled to overflowing. I did not try the breakfast because the place was so dirty. The room sheets and towels were the thinnest and cheapest I've ever experienced.

The worst part was, however, that the locking mechanism on the rear door was missing and the door was open for anyone to enter the hotel day or night. There's a Microtel, a Super 8 and a Best Western in Rice Lake...if you're going, I'd say any of them would have to be better!
