Along with another couple, my wife and I stayed here in mid-October. While the physical plant may be a little dated, we found our rooms and the public areas to be bright, freshly painted and well maintained. The front desk staff and the restaurant personnel were friendly and helpful. They were the only staff we encountered in this quiet stay.
We were a little disappointed to find that, although we had asked for two king bed rooms with lake views, we got queens instead. The significant difference for us was seating. Each room had one easy chair and then a desk chair that was not terribly comfortable. It was surprising that they could not meet our requests on what appeared to be a very slow weekend.
We had also been lead to believe that the rooms were equipped with "Sleep Number" beds, but that turned out to not be the case for us.
The only available parking is a public garage across the street where you are charged $1.50 each time you enter. This was not a problem for us, since were generally in and out just once each day. On the plus side the parking was very convenient! Be sure to have singles and /or change handy.
We had breakfasts in the hotel restaurant 2 days and they were good and also reasonably priced. If you just want juice, coffee and a roll, the coffee bar in the lobby is a bargain. We found some excellent local restaurants including Salute', an Italian place about 3 blocks away. If you like Italian, you'll love it!
Racine is old, but did not appear to be particularly depressed. Much of it is picturesque and the area around the waterfront is really quite attractive. All-in-all, we had a wonderful time there.
