A weekend at September Farms is like finding yourself in a different world for a while. The trip there helps one get a feel for the place. LaValle, about 20 minutes away on foot, only has a few hundred residents, and the the closest big city... depends on what you consider to be big. Geographically it's about midway between Chicago and Minneapolis/StPaul.
This is a place to relax. While there aren't any wi-fi spots for 20 miles, Lynne Yauchler (the Innkeeper) will allow you access to her personal computer to pick up your email. Yes, they have Dish Network available on the the few TVs scattered around the place, but there are many other better activities available. The Wisconsin 400 bike trail, which doubles as a horse trail at this point, is so close it crosses the long driveway. There is a very large open area around the house which eventually gets hemmed in by numerous trees. Indoors they have a pool table which converts to ping pong, electronic darts, and dozens of movies in the rec room. The main house has aerobics equipment in the basement, and a very large common area which features a working fireplace, a wall lined with books, and plenty of places to sit and read, until you fall asleep. The weather doesn't matter here, there is always something to do.
Breakfast is of course provided by Lynn. The large and well equipped kitchen is also pretty much open all day to make whatever you want yourself.
