“Park has gone down the drain”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Ok, it is a beautiful place, and there are a lot of things to do during the day in the park and surrounding area...but that is about all I can say good about this place.

Unfortunately, the ownership seems to have decided to change things up, and is now taking a very rigid stance in enforcing stupid rules. If you enjoy the "quiet" peaceful setting (without normal conversation), then this is the place for you. There is a 24 hour quiet time rule enforced, and if a ranger walks by during the evening and can hear you from the drive (a few feet from your campfire and tent), then they will threaten to write you a $260 citation and possibly expell you from the park. For larger groups/families who have multiple sites, they will tell you that you must be back on your own registered site by 11 pm. In addition, the check-in workers are rude. The water provided turns to a dark yellow after it sits awhile. The bathrooms are very dirty. Also, they do not believe in cleaning up the many huge insects/spiders hanging all throughout the bathrooms. It is bittersweet that my family has been camping here for over 10 years, and have really enjoyed what this place has had to offer. We are not planning to return.

“Great spot, especially if you don't like roughing it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Our favorite place to camp is Franklin Lake, at Nicolet National forest (gorgeous, huge, private sites, many right on the lake), but it's quite rustic (pit toilets, no showers) and a bit isolated. For a recent trip, I decided to take my daughter and her teenage friends to Peninsula State Park (which is also two hours closer to home). We camped at Tennison Bay #221 and had a wonderful time, even though the sites are pretty close together. The nearby bathroom and shower was a real treat, and we didn't mind the constant flow of foot/bike traffic past our site to the facilities (we're friendly). I also liked that Fish Creek (town) was very nearby. The Eagle Trail hike was wonderful; I only wish I had had time to go on more hikes. The kids really had a ball. That said, my daughter want's to go back to Franklin Lake when we go camping in August. I guess there's something to be said for "rustic" after all. :)

“Fall Camping is perfect.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2008

Beautiful this time of year. We stayed in Tennison 317 near the playground. All the sights on that row were very private with lots of trees. A very short walk to a rocky shore for sunsets. Sight has a half grill cover over the fire pit for cooking. We rented bikes right outside the enterance. Four bikes, one with a tag-along were just under $50. It took us around 90 minutes to complete the 10 mile ride. During the bike ride, we noticed that some of the waterfront campsites where right on the bike trail. This may be loud due to bike traffic. I was happy with our interior site.

The park is amazing. The campground was beyond beautiful. The bike trails were magnificent!! I completely recommend camping here if you are in Door County. Only problem were the check in attendants. They were extremely unfriendly and rude!
