In a word: mattress. When you are staying in a $100+ a night B&B, you'd expect something better than a $50 Walmart biscuit to sleep on - my wife and I could feel every spring in the thing and spent a restless and painfull night. Aside from that, the service was negligible, I had to hunt for people when I tried to a) check-in, despite calling several times in advance, including when I was pulling up their long driveway - we were checked in by the restaurant's chef, b) try to lower the room heat (finally opened a window) c) use the phone (finally gave up) d) get someone to turn down the sound in the lobby directly below my room at 10PM e) check out. The problem is that the Inn co-exists with a restaurant. Everyone onsite works the restuarant and has very little time for the guests (I never saw or heard from the owners). I was asked several times if I would be having dinner at the restaurant, very politely, but I got to feel that all interactions with the staff were primarily a salespitch. The resturant itself was quite loud (at least much louder than I'd expect for what's advertised as a bed-and-breakfast... activity died down about 11PM, but my wife and I finally couldn't stand the canned music piped out directly below us). Due to the restaurant, their are no public areas (sofa, lounge, fireplace, etc) in the one building, the next morning I found out that this was in the "lodge" building up the hill. The "lodge" certainly appears to be much more amenable and comofortable for guests, but I don't think it too much to expect to be at least warned about the difference. Breakfast was an adventure - good food, but the one staffperson (who was extremely polite and did honestly try her best) was ridicualously overworked trying to provide breakfast for 3 tables at once - among other things, she wound up clearing tables by simply piling dirty dishes onto other, empty tables. Not her fault at all, but another symptom of the overall inadequacy of this inn. Postives: Located in a pretty mountain "hollow", surrounded by pinewoods. The architecture and furnishings are also quite pleasant. I won't be returning, or recommending this inn to anyone.
