My husband and I stayed one night at the Cameo this past week on the recommendation of friends. Because it cost almost $100 more per night I only booked it for one night and then we went on to Walla Walla and the Marcus Whitman. Though we enjoyed our stay at the Whitman, I am sorry we did not stay one more night at Cameo Heights. It would have been well worth it. We were welcomed by Deanne who is a very warm hearted person and we enjoyed our little tour around the Mansion. We didn't arrive until almost 5pm and we were both tired - almost ready to fall asleep. I was concerned we would not "get our monies worth" if we just fell asleep and missed the amenities!
But the view from our room (the Italian room) was so fabulous - overlooking the pool area, the walla walla valley and the apple orchards was so invigorating, we decided to take a walk. We walked through the apple orchard, just enjoying the quiet and each other. When we got back to our room we each took a short hot soak in the jacuzzi tub, put on the luxury robes provided (over lounge wear), ate the piece of dark chocolate they left for us and went down to the movie room and watched a movie chosen from a long list of available dvds. My husband got the movie set up while I made fresh popcorn in the little popcorn maker they have set up for use in the downstairs kitchen. There is also a fire pit out by the pool area so they have made up "smoores" baggies for you to go out and fire up your own smoore if you'd like. (for all you ping-pong lovers...there is a ping pong table downstairs also along with a variety of table games)
The Movie room is so great. We decided then and there that we wanted one of those in our own home! Big comfortable leather chairs, surround sound and a large HDTV, sure made the movie extra enjoyable. We went up to bed around midnight and both commented that it was one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept on :) Details, details, details.
The next morning we sat with hot coffee in front of our double door veranda with the greatest view and the warm sunshine for over an hour. (they'll bring morning pastry and beverages to your room before breakfast if you'd like). We took showers in the large walk in shower with a rain shower overhead...and barely made it downstairs in time for a fabulous breakfast. Alan and helper (forgive me, I forgot her name but she was very friendly and chatted with us) made us a tasty fruit juice smoothie and we had a beautiful fresh fruit cocktail made in a large parfait glass. As you eat and chat you can watch Deanne cooking away on the commercial size grill and stove top. We had eggs, sausage, potatoes...the works, and all very good.
Before packing we took a final walk around and snapped some pictures. We met their beautiful and extremely friendly large dog, Dolly and she enjoyed walking around the deck and pool area with us. I would truly LOVE to return during the summer months. The only regret we have is that it was not warm enough to use the pool and enjoy the outdoor lounge area. But truly, that was hardly missed as we enjoyed a full evening and morning before we headed out.
Alan and Deanne, we recommend you highly and will see you again. God Bless.
Best rooms for morning sun and beautiful valley and pool view are at the back of the mansion.
