“Not bad for an emergency stopover”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

We had a short leg on a long driving trip and stopped in at Sunnyside’s Country Inn & Suites.

The front desk staff were friendly and efficient.

The room that we had reserved was ready and clean. The walls and ceilings are a wee bit thin. On the good side, it had a microwave and small fridge in it (which is a nice touch). It also had a small sitting room.

The wifi was extremely poor. It really didn’t work well at all.

The bathroom was dated and needed a major upgrade. The tub/shower and toilet were in one room, with the sink outside. This is a good idea when traveling with another person.

There is a fairly decent Mexican restaurant/bar (El Valle) at the end of the parking lot. So, food is close. However, it will not be at breakfast.. The included "Continental Breakfast" consisted of cakey muffins and sticky buns. No juice. As well as coffee with no liquid milk or cream, in styrofoam cups.

This may seem strange but the Sunnyside and the Country Inn & Suites should be avoided (not at all costs but...). Sorry but there is not much here. I am sure that the folks of this town are good people and I am not demeaning them or it. It is just that there is not much here. If you happen to need to stop for the night, then Country Inn & Suites of Sunnyside, might be fine.

“simple value”

I dropped in after midnight midweek without a reservation and got a warm, wide-awake welcome. I was initially disappointed that the hall end exits are for emergency because I have a lot of work related stuff to shift. I was expecting a long haul via the lobby, but with only 24 rooms per floor it wasn't so bad. No elevator, so I had the stairway to deal with. Security wise it seemed well arranged, well above average I thought, and I was one of several with work-related tools left in an open truck overnight with no problem.

The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The room windows open (much appreciated) and I noted that the location isn't downwind from any of the many dairies and feedlots in the area. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

My room was well appointed with the usual plus ironing board, microwave, and fridge. I guess the room hadn't been stayed in for awhile as I had to plug appliances back in or maybe that was just to save on electricity. The showerhead had a leak, shampoo provided but no conditioner. Dust in some corners if you looked for it. One gets the impression that the recession has affected amenities and maintenance, but the staff was friendly, approachable, engaging. You can forgive a little dust when it comes with a smile.

I enjoyed the moderate continental breakfast (bagels, omelette, waffles, juice, coffee, cereal). They were pretty close to capacity, and the other folks staying there seemed to be as relaxed and as satisfied as I was. I'll stay there again when I have a job in the area.

“Good basic small town value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

Spent an extended weekend in Sunnyside at the Country Inn & Suites. Spent a few extra dollars to get a Queen room with a kitchenette. Typical small town motel, looks to be at least 25 years old. A quirky mix of guests - some couples travelers, including some oldies, some young families, some guys who were working road construction nearby. Some guests look to be long term guests (maybe they get a monthly rate?).

Pros: Bed very comfortable. Walls and floors thick enough to keep room nice and quiet (we were on 2nd floor). Room was spacious. Air conditioner worked very well. Small pool area was nicely maintained. Very quiet at night, especially peaceful after 9 PM. Maid service was superb, they did an excellent job for us. Front desk staff very helpful.

Cons: Selection of TV channels limited (less than advertised on website), and TV was a little old. Even though we chose a room with a kitchenette, room did not include cutlery, plates, bowls, glasses, cups, pots - nothing!

You'll probably find rooms at this hotel are $20 or more a night less than most others in the area. This hotel is a very solid economy option.

“Average Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2009

This hotel is good for a nights stay. The staff is very friendly and very nice. The pool is relaxing on a hot summers day. The rooms are smaller but they do for the night! This like I said, is an average place.

“Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2008

They charge $75 for Friday and Saturday and $45 for the other nights. Naturally we were there on a Friday and Saturday. We paid $30 per night to much. The place is OK, but not worth $75.

We were on the second level and the floors in the room creaked no matter where we walked. When anybody walked by on the walkway outside the noise reverberated right into out room.

The room was neat and clean and the folks at the desk were very nice.
