“Cute and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

This is an old historic Inn done up with country decor. The room and bathroom were imaculate. The hotel had some very nice touches, great magazines in room and lobby to read. Free water bottles in the fridge next to the ice machine. The hotel had a lovely courtyard with seating and a hot tub. Our room and bed were small. A fluffy duvet and wireless in the room would have made this stay perfect. Location is excellant.

Room Tip: Rooms off the street would be quiet.

“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

No, the rooms don't have great views of the Channel, but that is why we have feet -- a ~10metre walk gets you there. Location is brilliant: Just across the street from Calico Cupboard, and why would you go anywhere else in La Conner for breakfast? My room was small, but very comfortable; the bathroom was lovely. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The courtyard is a beautiful place to sit and think or talk. Bring a bathing suit for the hot tub.

“Quaint”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Up a narrow stairway to the second floor, Hotel Planter is across the street from the water with a peak-a-boo view of the channel. Services was good. The room was small (I hit the door on the night stand going into my room.) The bathroom was large. A historic building, but dated finshings pointing to a 1980s remodel. 12 units and ours opened to the landing so we could hear everything. Great windows. Antiquey smell of burning dust. Location is close to everything. Wonderful food across the street and the museum a block away has a legitimate gift shop.

“We'll be back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

We've gone to La Conner for New Year's Eve many times over the last 10 years & although we've strayed elsewhere a couple of years, we always come back. This is the first time we've tried the Hotel Planter & we're glad we did. The hotel info stated, "if you look carefully you may see a partial view of the channel" so we didn't expect to really see much but it was a nice view overlooking La Conner's Main Street, with the bridge and water view off to the south. I appreciated their candor & had no expectations so was very happy. It was fun people watching and the town is wonderfully bedecked (in a casual, warm, authentic way, not glitzy & commercial). The staff was pleasant & helpful, though very low-key as they're multi-taskers. The hotel is very conveniently located, amidst shops and restaurants. The room was very clean with crisp & comfortable bedding & furnishings. It is a National Historic Inn, but renovated so has all of the old world charm, without the mustiness that often goes along with staying in an old hotel. We will definitely come back & stay here. The only odd thing was the hours of the outdoors spa (6 p.m.-11 p.m.) but we learned it was because the owners have an art gallery, which opens into the courtyard area where the spa gazebo shares outdoor gallery space. It was not overly inconvenient - I was more interested in checking out the courtyard than the spa as it was delightful. La Conner could use another restaurant but there are a couple of good ones with a very short walk. Great birding nearby.

“Nice place to stay...!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Yes, I agree with a previous review....Hotel Planter is not a "Five Star Hotel", but....would I "recommend it to a friend"? The answer is: Absolutely...!!

We stayed in Room #2. I believe that's their best room. It's in a separate wing overlooking the courtyard facing away from 1st Street and the traffic.

Cudos to Hotel Planter, and the staff for providing a complimentary corkscrew....along with two wine glasses...!!!

I'll rate Hotel Planter at 3-1/2 stars, but that's a fairly solid recommendation. This hotel doesn't have the elevators, bellhops and all the other services that a five star hotel has.

But....it's a nice place....!!!
