“Serene, Warm Hospitality and Great Advice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My children and I spent several days at the end of December 2011 in the Foreman Cabin on this 500+ acre cattle ranch. The owners were so kind, pleasant and helpful. Since it was just after Christmas, they invited us to partake in their own home-baked goodies they had on the table which was perfect after our long drive. Ovenell's owners took the time to show us all the sites in the area from a map and took every question I had patiently. The cabin was extremely clean and comfortable. The fireplace was so cozy and warm and the bathroom was spacious with thick towels. I highly recommend Ovenell's and I intend to go back. The entire area is gorgeous. As I had selected this Inn based on the area wanting to see the migrating bald eagles during this specific time, I needed assistance in knowing what restaurants were there and how to see the bald eagles. They recommended taking a boat ride down the Skagit River with a local company - Wayne and Melissa's Ackerlund's "Skagit River Guide Service". They even called the company and for us and then handed us the phone. What a magnificent and wonderful trip it was - made for memories my kids and I will have forever. We spent almost 3 hours with Wayne explaining the eagles, the salmon and the area for us. He even made a stop and gave everyone hot chocolate. It was a grand tour as we saw about 100 bald eagles during the river tour.

Room Tip: The Foreman cabin's bathroom was big with very high ceilings. It had a separate bedroom with a...

“Perfect Rural Getaway”

We loved the Woodsman cabin for a one-night stay, making ourselves right at home in its cozy embrace. All booking arrangements and check-in were fine (we happened to check in when cookies were just coming out of the oven - a bonus treat!). The cabin has everything, including a gas log fireplace to warm it quietly. The bed and bedding*, as previously reviewed, were excellent. Highly recommend Annie's Pizza down the road! Absolutely the best, which we took to our cabin for a romantic dinner. I followed the advice of a reviewer and brought bottled water for drinking, coffee and tea making. Very glad I did, as the mineral odor is prominent. We look forward to going back to this idyllic spot. Recommended: Ladder Creek Falls trail at night, in Newhalem, which was our featured destination and the reason I searched for a place in Concrete. Also, a morning walk on the expansive ranch property and down to the Skagit river, recommended to us at check-in, was beautiful. *(My only complaint, which I've stated in another B&B review: the perfumed dryer sheets used for the linens! Please use unscented ones, please, please...)

Room Tip: Review the photos on the website; I selected the Woodsman because the ceiling looked loftier, but th...

“Enjoy the peace and beauty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

I especially like the scenery from the deck in front of the reception house. The hostess is kind to allow us to enjoy the view at the deck. Watching the evening/morning rays shining on remote Mt Baker while horses gaze on the pasture nearby, those are the highlights of our pleasant stay. We were lost in the amazing beauty of nature. Unforgetable experience!

“Outstanding !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

The combination of the Ovenells' hospitality, local knowledge and recommendations along with a spotlessly clean cabin (with one of the best mattresses I've slept on outside my home) made for an exceptional 4 days of hiking in the nearby Cascades. If you're interested enough to be reading this review, go ahead and make a reservation! If you don't want to cook your meals, there is great pizza in town, the Red Apple grocery has very good sandwiches to go, and there's an oustanding brewpub 10 minutes up the road.

“Remote Location, Beautiful Scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

We stayed in the Fisherman & Woodsman cabins while touring the North Cascades National Park. These small cabins were clean, cozy and well-equipped with microwave, refrig, 2-burner stove, a/c and heater.

The cabins are in a very small town with only a burger place and a pizza place for restaurants. You may want to stock up on food on your way to the cabins because it's a 15-20 minute drive into town. Be sure to bring a couple of jugs of water. During our stay the tap water had a strong smell and a metallic taste. It was okay for cleaning, but I didn't want to drink it or make coffee with it.

Otherwise, it's a beautiful location, very peaceful and a good night's sleep.
